Actually you're right, and I should know better. However I want my SIM to be S60 virgin until the E71! Although the N95-3 offers so much funk it's design queues and bulk bother me > that and the fact that everybody in the world is flaunting it and its OLD now. The E71 is just sooo sexy ... its the only S60 device (N96 excluded) that I wanted since the 6620 besides functionality.
 
Welcome to the n95 and true world of s60:-) with plenty of ram s60 is beautifully stable, solid and powerful. This is why it irks me so much hearing older generation s60 users put down new s60 handsets based on old underpowered phones. Especially from the iphone crowd. S60 really does bridge the gap between regular phones and smartphones.
 
Admittedly I have not read every post in this thread, but what is the expected price of the E71? Nokia had no problem charge a grand for the E90, do you guys think the E71 will be substantially less? I can not imagine the BB 9000 will be anywhere close to a grand. I am guessing it will be priced similar to the current high end models (88xx).... so in the 400-500 range.

To me, Nokia developed the E71 to compete DIRECTLY with the Blackberries, with its very similar design. My guess is, both will be in the 400-500 range.
 
I'm starting to warm up to this phone, just wished I didn't have to look everywhere for the apps or functions.

This phone feels good in my hand, solid not plasticly like the BBs. D pad is awesome, the map function now works and works great. It just takes a little long to lock onto a satellite.
 
My question sort of chimes with the above...I know the T-mobile 3g is 2100/1700...now does that mean you have to have both in order to use 3g or if you had one would that be helpful

I only ask cause my E61i is 3G 2100 but is that the same 2100 as the T-mobile. The same goes for the new E71...are any of its band compatible with T-mobile 3g?

For those of you truely looking to use the E71 (still unsure fully supported) for pure office mobile synchronization, push email (and other specific Exchange 2007 functions beyond MFE), and more read the following concise comparison between RoadSync & MFE.

Verdict is still out though on just how powerful these solutions work when it comes to using corporate servers located behind a LAN/WLAN Firewall. Yes I've got a LOT more to learn.
 
well their prices are usually right on par with the rest of the online retailers so thats why i said it cant be right. Ive bought my last 5 phones from there and have always paid what I would have at any online store and I get it right there and without tax or shipping so I dont see how it will be 800. I was checking their price for the n78 when it came out a few weeks ago and it went down at the same rate as the other online retailers. We'll see on Tuesday I guess, cuz Im not spending more than 500-ish for this phone, as much as I hate ordering online and waiting for shipping.
 
Clumsytheif, Just wondering if its just spelling or the correct accents (Agu, Grav, etc)?? Correct me if I'm wrong but some words en francais (Quebec) are different than in Paris? (difference of Metis based french & euro french)

I'd return your E71 for a FULL refund SOON before you drop it or damage it! Worst if you try to change the firmware on a BRAND NEW phone & model and you brick it and have to sell it for 1/4 the price you paid for it. Return it, get your cash back, be patient for the USA NAM. Doni has provided GOOD information - and is quiet informative ... but since you mentioned your new to cellphone stuff I'm suggesting to err on the side of caution. I wouldn't do it to be the crash test.

Doni what service are you using for VoiP calls on your N95-4??
Is it a Rogers sourced model, debranded?
Lastly, what app are you using to use the VoIP service ??
 
That doesn't sound right - I did my first charge last night, spent the day using the web, a few phone calls, a few messages, gmail, and some GPS - only used up 2 bars for the whole day. I'm not pushing/pulling email automatically though.

Maybe you installed something that's chewing through the battery... or you just have a dud one.

As for the camera - press T to focus. There is no dedicated camera button on the E71, and the middle button isn't a two-step button, so they couldn't combine it onto the same button.
 
One again, I agree wholeheartedly that the new system is better in many ways. It should be hard to install untrusted apps that use sensitive capabilities. I think anybody who is using either open signed or has a developer ID is pretty likely to not be bothering their carrier over something their app has screwed up. That's my point.

In the enterprise, the people getting the call won't be the carrier or phone manufacturer, but the company's help desk.

My basic point is that the perceived fear of escalating carrier support costs by letting those who can figure out the signing process use all the capabilities seems unlikely. I guess there might be some moronic developer who deletes all the OS files and goes whining to the carrier about their phone not working anymore, but it seems like a stretch to me.

FWIW, I'd like to move toward more Symbian use now that Nokia has ported Python over. It makes for both rapid development (and test iterations) as well as a relatively easy port from the PC to the phone when we decide that the interfaces to these backend systems ought to be available more conveniently. The specific apps I have in mind don't require any particularly sensitive capabilities, but it's nice to know going in that you're not going to be impeded later on when you do need to do something low level.
