So true. When Blackberry had the only reliable push email capability they were the system to have! They were also more reliable then as well. But competition has perhaps pushed them to modify their service and I'm guessing this tinkering with the old system has lead to their reliability issues. To be fair, they're still one of the top email services in terms of uptime, but folks with a mission-critical need for communications have come to rely on them and now find they don't have the cast iron service they imagined. I know a pilot who donates his spare time to LifeFlight and if they don't get him the word that he's needed then they must scramble to find an alternate pilot. His Blackberry has been his go-to device for this but now he's going back to regular cellular service and text messages. Then he calls in, with pencil and paper in hand, and someone reads him his details. In fact, RIM is in the middle of an outage as I type this!
