*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia E71

Got one today with the Asian Marking :( but don't matter cause it's a fantastic little phone.....you really don't appreciate how solid and small this thing is until it's in your hands.....haven't had much time to play with it so I will be doing that tonight. My first impressions are good....seems the keypad is quite nice. I'm typing fairly fast on it.

I have mine in order now - just waiting for it to arrive.

The dealer said he was not sure if there was a 2GB microSD bundeled with the phone, and that it was no big deal since the content on this flashcard was just preinstalled maps.

Is this right? I think I have read someplace of some optional applications stored on the card too....

I'm sure Nokia's Next Business Solution will support this.

Take a solid read on this & download and read the white paper on this - its a VERY interesting read if you're used to using BES 4.1 SP4 you'll see some great Options that you're used to doing (MDS on Microsoft will be some .NET or .ASP solution with Visual Studio I'm sure). Most likely you're already using MS SQL Server 2005 onto 2008 soon, so your db's are already there. The curiosity is the licensing costs & costs to implement and costs for ultimate support, and finally just how SEAMLESS the transition will be.

iPhone definitely has it plusses- gorgeous UI, Safari, app store and of course iPod capabilities but as a PHONE I'm not crazy about it. Don't like touch screens, and though the keyboard is actually pretty good for a touch, it ain't no real qwerty!

I've had the e71 for about a week (also had the e61i which I liked as well). Long story short, I gave my iPhone to my son and LOVE the e71. Build quality is fantastic, compact, great qwerty, good OS. Nokia and Google maps both work nicely with the A-GPS. The built in browser is pretty good (no comparison to the iphones Safari however). Mail app is adequate for my needs, am able to place VOIP calls. I like the threaded SMS Conversation app. For me it does everything I need it to do quickly and as a gadget geek it's a beaut.

It really depends on what your needs are. If you're into multimedia and/or gaming the iPhone really has no equal. If it's more business related with the ability for some AV stuff then I prefer the e71.

Kinda curious to see what the BB Bold is like as well. For email there honestly is no equal, but I'm not wild about BBs limited apps availability..

ok so i know the navi key has been discussed previously in this thread but today i was looking over the specs on the nokia site and it says "Navi wheel support ", so to me that means there is a way for the navi key to act like the navi wheel on the n78, when it mentions it it's in reference to music playback. can anyone confirm this?

To follow up on my query about the E71-3, here's what Nokia's specs say:

E71-3 == Quad-band EGSM 850/900/1800/1900, WCDMA 850/2100 HSDPA

I'm wondering if that's a typo that should be:

E71-3 == Quad-band EGSM 850/900/1800/1900, WCDMA 1700/2100 HSDPA

Either way, I'm very sure the E71-2 is the one headed to AT&T:

E71-2 == Quad-band EGSM 850/900/1800/1900, WCDMA 850/1900 HSDPA

So, who is the E71-3 going to, if it's not T-Mobile USA? And if it IS T-Mobile USA, why isn't WCDMA-1700 listed?

Yea, I'm getting quite efficient at typing using the virtual KB, I mean, you've got to look at the screen, but TouchPal's phenomenal and it's predictive text is fabulous so almost all my texts are sent the second I get them and same goes for emails as well. I'm really looking fwd to the diamond and BB 'thunder' which BGR has said it'd be called. I think I pulled out my stylus today only to soft-reset (I was running Tomtom with 6 other apps, it was bound to happen), other than that, I dont recall pulling out my stylus for navigating around the phone.
