*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia E71

I found what looks like a holster on the Nokia Europe page. Atleast I think its a holster, they call it a " Nokia mobile holder CR-106". Guess thats Euro speak for holster.

I know this very well, lol. I always look for the lowest price anyone's offering a similar device in eBay and in HoFo, then shave 10% off that and hold firm for a bit. That's just the nature of the phone reselling business.

Hey all the power to you if you can wait...but Jontymista, cbreze, and I are impatient buggers....

I'm sure it's going to be an incredible device....but there are other solid phones coming out.

Rose usually sends the tracking# in a day or two. If you didn't get the tracking number means .. it may not have shipped. Or May be you may have a surprise at your door tomorrow ;)

Most likely works for RIM, works for a provider as a provisioning rep/manager, or is the main contact for distribution of phones for a LARGE corporation/business that has direct sales ties for large orders for RIM. Lastly, he could also be working for the government or is a phone review user. Just my estimates.

For multimedia, I'd say that the S60 series used in the E71 would be poised to be better than the Bold; however the lines are blurring. Bold will be capable of quite a lot more than the older/current (8700/8310 or 8320) could/can.

Ah, another debate about Nokia and ATT. IMHO: Nokia does not need ATT as Nokia is doing just fine Globally, Nokia is the #1 cell phone maker in the world. ATT does not need Nokia as ATT is doing just fine in the USA, ATT is probably the #1 cell phone service provider in the USA. So, they do not like each other and they do not need each other, what can you do? :(

Wow, that is a very long, indepth review. I'll have to read thru it when I have some more time. I did scroll down the the pix and I dont think they look THAT bad. This is a cell phone and its emphasis is not on multimedia. I am guessing that the size of the device led to a compromise of the camera lens. I dont know about you guys, but if I want to take nice pix, I use a real digital cam or better yet, a digital SLR. This is not a deal breaker for me at all.

Both the E71 and Blackberry Bold come with a 1500 mAh battery, so any great disparity in talk time will speak volumes about the efficiency of the OS and the device in general. Perhaps RIM's email constant connection is the culprit. Powering a larger/denser screen may also weigh on the Bold's battery life.

Hey, does anyone know how to format the e71? I'm about to sell it to get the NAM version (supposed to be out this week according to rumours), but didn't find out how. I tried Nokia Software Updater to restore the original firmware, but I get "Sorry, the Nokia Software Updater is currently unavailable. Please disconnect the device and try later".

I haven't done this on the E71, but on the N95 you power off the phone, then press and hold the call and end buttons (green/red) and power up the device (don't hold the power button, just power it up), and keep the other two buttons pressed for a few seconds. That completely wipes the N95 of any personal data etc.

the left and right soft keys will activate the application that is listed on it if you do a short press...

to change the selections goto menu/settings/phone settings/general/personalization/standby mode/shortcuts and work in there...

* I'm still digging from sources directly or indirectly taken from RIM's official press release .... yet nothing directly from RIM states its video recording resolution.

- sorry everyone if off-topic but was asked. Still want the E71 though.

Can't speak for the E71, but on the E51 it's Menu / Tools / Settings / Personalisation / Standby Mode / Active Standy Plug-Ins then you check the Message Notifier box.

The location might have changed a bit on the E71, but I can't imagine it's been disabled!
