*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia E71

It would be sooo stupid if Nokia would release those phones tomorrow from all those past days from 3 months time it have seemed ready to us. Either they dont care or marketing team dont know what's happening :D

Oh, so maybe I'm the industry source then. Heh, if only.

I WOULD like to see something next week though...at the very least that points to some sort of launch of official announcement Monday.

Rumour has it that the Bold might arrive on the 21st of this month ..

Expansys pre-order shipping status says "26 days" for Nokia E71 NAM.

Sure, why not? It'd be the first US 3G E-series, but don't forget, half of the devices announced at MWC had the US 3G version announced at the same time. There's a possibility, for sure.

I have an E71x from AT&T and I love the phone, except for one thing. When I use the alarm clock I think the alarm is too soft and I don't like the way it starts soft and gradually gets louder. When it first goes off it's loud enough to get my attention (just enough for me to turn it off), but not enough to truly wake me up. I've looked through the settings, but I can't seem to find a way to increase the starting volume.

Any ideas?

The width is the one thing I'm apprehensive about regarding the E71. I like the width of my E62 (and E61). It makes it comfortable to type. I rarely hit the wrong key.

Of course, when it comes time to put it in your pocket, a bit narrower would be nice. If they were the thickness of one of the HTC phones, it would have been way too much. If I can get used to the keyboard, I'll be very pleased with an E71. If not, I'll still be pleased with it, but I might as well get a phone without QWERTY. ;)

As far as screen orientation goes, the ability to run in both landscape and portrait is one of the Symbian Signed test criteria is it not?

The one problem I have with Roadsync (and I generally like it very much) is with my sent files. When I tried to look at an e-mail sent from Roadsync, it is gibberish. I normally just cc myself as a work around.

well since the e71 has the breathing/missed call light in the d-pad that sorta makes the screensaver useless cuz if theres a missed event the light will let you know and you can just push a button to find out what it was. no big deal if the screen saver's not there IMO

edit: Yeah, same thing he said ^^^ lol

Motorola has shipped five Symbian OS (UIQ) devices (more when you include country variants).

Motorola does not get religious (anymore) about OS platforms. They behave more as a contract manufacturer, and will supply just about any OS. They have flirted with pure Java platforms, Linux, Symbian, and Microsoft... and no double would happily build iPhone or Android compatible phones..

iPhone is not a market changer, nor are any of the "touch" phones. 7-8 years ago Ericsson did a prototype Symbian OS "quartz" device ("Pamela")which was entirely touch-screen.... the predecesser to the UIQ devices, which (while stylus drive) UIQ users know you can detach the keyboard and go entirely "touch". At the time it was felt that users would not accept a phone without a physical numeric keypad. Prototype finger and gesture driven UI's were designed (and abandoned.) Nothing in the iPhone revolutionary, even new within the last 5 years, or not easily duplicated. The Apples specific UI design is well done and proprietary IP, it's not unique and anyone can build a finger-driven interface and slap it on top of Symbian OS, Blackberry, or otherwise.

The only strategic advantages Apple has in the cell phone space are: (1) brand and (2) itunes.

Here's a picture of Pamela, cica 2002:
