*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia E71

This is the hard part with IT & the Industry of Office Email assets. The BlackBerries they've provided to you are procured through the company and thus all data on it including the handset is considered property of the company. Even if you where to procure a BlackBerry on your own (Bold for the larger Multimedia support), Most if not all the data on it coming from the company is well the Company's (including your intellectual contributions). With your own BlackBerry the IT department runs into the issue that if wiped or you LEAVE the company (subsequently the device will also be wiped) ....

* How do you prove that data on the BES is YOURS not the companies?
(Personal Contants, db stored for 3rd party app, mapping stored routes, SMS/MMS Content) Notice that personal email is NOT part of this equation because your POP/IMAP server should have the original email content that was forwarded/retrieved by the BB.

* How does the COMPANY prove ALL data is THEIRS and releasing ANY part of it TOO you leaves the company open to business/practice/project leaks/risks to competitors or to the public or to litigation.

Easy way out is to restrict ANY personal device on the BES and also to have their employees have the BBDM to do a sync/backup of their personal info.

However, in order to get this ball rolling in your court you'll have to do some extreme research and a bit of a bout. Many companies IT Admins (Exchange) claim policy that to open up Corp.Email is at risk to the company - yet most likely will allow Outlook Web Access.

1> Public PC's accessing this can easily take screenshots of the email/browser using OWA.

2> Company Desktops are usually not restricted to having the BBDM installed where a FULL backup can be done (most likely IT Policy was not set to restrict this on the BES).

3> you can point to official documentation & show the precedure for the E71 to be remotely wiped by the end user - should it be stolen.

You can point them to further application support (device)

Last best bet you can plead if they'll allow the MFE to be installed on your desktop (is it an app installable on Corp Desktop so that Corp Email is forwarded to HH?) ??

I'm not sure the the WebKit S60 Browser within the unit will be recognized by OWA (outlook web access) though.

Can anyone shed light on my thoughts that could help others out on this?

Yeah....it's getting harder and harder to hold off buying this device after hearing all these positive things about it. Cancelled from Plemix, but could pick one up from CTI NY tomorrow, but at a premium.....

Can't believe the keyboard it that good....

how long does shipping take from "rose" thats the one that says free upgrade to overnight on the auctions? Do you really get it the next day after ordering or no? Looks like I may be going this route since my local stores cant figure out if they have stock or not of this phone. thanks

Ok, my thoughts so far on the first day of use:

Likes - Excellent reception. Gmail works fine and fast for me(dont seem to miss the BB in that regard). Youtube is very fun as well as how quick the internet works. Screen is visible in direct sunlight. Probably one of the quickest phones Ive set up yet.

Dislikes - Keypad is harder to use than the Curve; spaced very tight and not as well laid out. Battery life is dismal; 5 hours off the charger and Im down to one bar(Ill chalk that up to being the first full charge and use). Back of the phone gets very warm; especially the camera lens for some reason. Speaking of camera, its abysmal; nothing comes in clear(autofocus wtf?). Would like the same ability as on the curve to delete messages off the phone and not the server at the same time; unfortunately all the headers still stay. And lastly, I still cannot sync with my iMac which could be the ultimate undoing of this phone.

EDIT: Strike that last sentence. Thanks to the post above mine I was able to get it to sync. HOWEVER, Im under the sneaking suspicion that its only syncing with iCal and not my entourage.

your reading comprehension seems flawed.

I was explaining that I was under that impression because of what he said.

Maybe that alcohol has killed a few too many brain cells. Pity they don't grow back.

Where did you find Opera Mobile for the E71/E66?? I didn't think Opera still made a native browser for S60 anymore. Back in the day, Opera had it embedded for providers selling it (before the S60 Browser/OSS debuted).

Speaking of which, how come when I save a page as a bookmark I cannot save it directly into any nokia folders or other folders I've created? Is there a way around this, some setting I've overlooked/not noticed? Also is there a way for me to save a hypertext link within a page as a bookmark? I can click on them just not bookmark.

@Onizuka, Your welcome into the S60 house anytime man. Your thanks, and thanks from those of us you mentioned, is part of the reason the S60 thread is amongst, not THE, most active forums here on HoFo.
