*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia E71

I'm still not sold if that will be including the NAM version.

Doesn't make any sense why Nokia is sitting on this phone for so long?

They had Youtube videos available for this months ago. Either something is wrong with the phone itself or maybe they are purposely waiting to launch it after the ONYX for whatever reason...

That HEAVILY depends on usage. First of all, AT&T will not activate Blackberry Enterprise Services on their phones on the GoPhone plans, so if you want to hook into a Blackberry Server, you have to have a contract. Plus it costs extra, grumble grumble, but there's a lot more Blackberry servers out there then there are Exchange-Push or Nokia Intellisync servers. Second there's no international access at all..texting or calling, so if you need that at any time you're sunk. Third thing, as you mentioned, nights and weekends....those get MUCH cheaper on a contract, so if you do a heavy amount of calling during those times you very well may be better off on a contract as opposed to paying per minute on prepaid.

Still, I prefer to have an unlocked phone, even when on a contract. Carriers DO tend to mess with the firmwares, and not always to the better (Exhibit A: the Nokia N75 didn't even have A2DP anymore when AT&T was through with it).

Suprisingly, for two phones that are aimed towards two types of business users, all of a sudden I'm hard pressed in clearly seeing myself clearly choose between either phone.

I know, I know - One is a QWERTY, and if you absolutely must have that, then your choice is much more obvious than what my decision will be.

First, let's take a look at the similarities:
  • Same great looking design scheme
  • Similar feature list - GPS, camera, memory, connectivity
  • I'm going to assume that the processors are the same, so there's probably going to be the same or similar performance

So what's separating the two?
  • Form factor - but having used both form factors in the past, they both have their own benefits, and being a past owner of the e65, I REALLY love that slide mechanism.
  • Aspect ratio - e71 is a widescreen....but....oh mah, Nokia really threw me a curveball when they announced that the e66 has a built-in accelerometer for screen rotation!!!!! So the e66 might be slightly better for watching videos and such, as it has the slightly larger screen
  • Battery Life - Larger phone has a larger battery - This may be the final selling point for me, but both battery numbers (as preliminary as they are) are quite astonishing.
  • I really like that little glow on the D-pad of the e71 - I'm not sure if the e66 has it, but I saw it on one of the

As you can see, at least for me, it's coming down to the wire. Looks like I'll have a few weeks to make up my decision, but these pictures and specs ain't making my life any easier....

Thank GOD my leg is fine.... ok but Ive had Nokia phones in the past that came with the "pouch" and thats exactly what it was, a useless pouch. It was more like a bag! Does anyone actually use those things? Think of the redicule if I pulled my phone out of that pouch at work... So the picutre you saw, was it a case/holster or a pouch?

wait a tick..im positive that one of the e71 owners on here bought it from rose, so could they please chime in about ever receiving tracking/shipping info?

i want to say its rap...but im not sure O_O

as a loyal t-mobile customer for a while to come...is there any point at all for me to wait for the e71-2 NAM version? would it make any sort of difference at all? this may sound dumb, but i read somewhere else that having the "proper" 3g bands helped signal strength and RF and thats really the only thing holding me back

aside from that, my only requirement is no damn chinese symbols and im a happy camper

Wow just back from the F1 race in Montreal.....can't believe we finally got some kind of confirmation when this puppy will be available :clapping: According the Mobile Review, this will ship June 16th, but not readily available in most stores till end of July and thus...3rd quarter...start saving your pennies peoples ;)

While that bugs me, having this half cocked USB thing is worse. Better than the POP port, but really, why can't Nokia just get with the standards of the rest of the world?

Thanks for that! Although I wish that for the list of numbers dialed, received, or missed, you could click something like "times" (like on my old 6230b), and it would show a list of the times (including dates) you called, received or missed (depending on which screen) that number/contact. Just showing the one time and date I last dialed/received/missed that number isn't good enough, imo.

i had a problem with my blueant z9 headset where it would either work great for a few hours or constantly disconnect then reconnect every few seconds. i updated the firmware on the headset and i hard reset the phone and it has worked great for the last 2 days of heavy use
