*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia E71

You can set the messaging button to take you directly to the messaging app, and from there you can click on your inbox (it is the second link).

I realize that is a pain but it is one less step than having it go straight to an e-mail inbox

Yes manual settings.

Beyond rumors, logical deduction and other rational forms of discussion, I'd really just like to know where is the E71??? It got some press a few weeks back, a few days just before there was reportedly going to be some kind of 'official' announcement, and then it really just fell off the face of the earth.

Maybe they found some kind of critical flaw (like 'hey, this doesn't look enough like the iPhone') so they scrapped the whole thing and went back to the drawing board...? ;)

i wish we knew why that happened. cause other than that, conversations is rock solid for me. i have about 400 messages in it right now and its smooth sailing. though i havent noticed words getting deleted very often...maybe once a month it happens, which i just attribute to regular wear and tear use on the t9 library.

lol..that's exactly why I can't roll with an N series device until they release one with a qwert. BBC, qwerty, 3G, 5mp zenon, 3.0inch 1/2VGA, 30fps, N-Gage, and slim as a mofo. Am i asking for too much?!?!?

I am guessing that if the device is announced, then mfg has begun and the engineering specs are set. It will take a while to ramp up to start cranking out devices. So, if Nokia sets the specs of the E71 in stone, it will take a while to build them in any quantity. I know some have said that some of these devices have just showed up in the market, but if you want free marketing hype, you have to play the press release/hype game. Apple is so good at it. BB got some nice free publicity today on the "Wall Street Journal This Morning" radio show, a story about the 9000 Bold. I also heard it on local news as well. I dont EVER remember a Nokia product being mentioned that way. BB has built a great BRAND, much the way Apple has.

Guys I am looking for mp4 (video) ringtones beyond the 2 which come with the Nokia E71. Google found me a bunch of shady web sites I'd rather not download anything from.

Looking for some professionally done (I know I can make my own).
Would appreciate any pointers. Thanks.

With the Blackberry Bold sporting 3G, WiFi, GPS, and doing both MS Office docs (Documents To Go) and HTML email, it's getting harder and harder to resist the gravitational pull from RIM. The list of things the Blackberry can't do is getting very short indeed! Plus, Blackberry remains the gold standard for email. With corporations continuing to embrace Blackberry, and not adopting new devices (and why should they?), it's tough for any new device to break into the market, especially one with a focus on messaging.

I was SO ready to grab up an E71, but after the long wait my zeal has cooled, mostly because of how close the Blackberry Bold is to release. Nokia missed their window with this one. I may still take a look at the E66 as a backup phone, but the E71 has become a non-starter with me.

I'm talking about the E71 having issues, not the N95. And it is not about typing anything. It is about number conversion when you make an internet call directly from your contacts.

"The E71's voip client (internet phone) does not properly send out the numbers? E.g. with my N95 8GB, it always ignores any characters in the formatting of a number (except for "+") and sends the dialed number without them. The E71 sends the number "as is", i.e. if you have a formatted number +1 (313) 568-8000, it should be sent as [email protected] (or any other voip provider) but the E71 sends +1 (313) [email protected]

All my settings are as on my N95, and it works flawlessly on the E71 if I removed the number formatting in my contacts. If the number is sent formatted, it wouldn't go through, I usually get an error "address not in use"

I thought it was quite clear what I meant.

It converts perfectly with N95 client (number conversion is necessary when you use SIP, e.g. in WM you have to edit/change a dial template; but in s60 so far it has been working great without any issues for me until now).

What do you mean by resetting to POP3? do you mean resetting the phone to factory settings and start over? when I do the email wizard to set it up, it doesn't give me the option to choose POP3.

I have an issue with that too, shown in a previous post.
All other answers see above below your questions.
Go have some fun with your new toy. Congratulations!

Yep. I'm darned attracted to this phone too, but the deal-breaker for me is the dimness of the screen. It's evident in the pictures and videos. A review I read today, which was generally very positive, described the screen as "none too bright." I'll wait for the N96.

Is there an application that I can use ot view all the folders and drives in the phone with my PC? (like x-plore but on tjhe PC)

I want to be able to edit and change some of these files.
