Official Thread: Nokia E5

When the E72 gained 3.5mm jack, and a 5MP camera they said its what the E71 should have been.

Now E5 is announced.. Yay!!! 256MB of RAM.. Where is my Front facing camera? Where is my BP-4L? I heard no AF.. WTF?

Your right The Company Nokia does not know what their doing.. Why would they Effin do that..

On the E70.. WTH do they call that resolution? lolz

The E70 has the same reso as the N80.

my point was slightly different thoug, i.e. to simply point out that even RIM still uses same resolution screens in some/many of its slightly cheaper models.

I use Pixelpipe as my default account.. With just one click.. That picture will upload to Facebook, Twitpic, Friendster, Photobucket, and Flickr.

I can add more services if I want to..

"It does not seem you know how to use a Symbian properly?"

I did a little more testing of the E5 this morning. First the good news. The GPS on this phone is fast. I think it may even be faster than my N86 and N82 (which was one of the reasons I ditched the N97) I will test them side by side (minus the sim card) later.

Now the bad news. The camera needs some help. I tested the E5 against the N86, N82 and my Palm Pre Plus. I did 4 different tests with each phone.

One next to a window with natural light (phones left on auto), the second in the same place with the curtains drawn to create a low light situation (again phones left on auto), the 3rd test I moved to a pitch dark bathroom and tested all phones on auto and whatever night setting was available (the Palm has no settings, you can only turn on/off the flash)

I tested the pitch dark room at a distance of 2 feet and again at about 5 feet to see how well the cameras flash worked.

The phones were held in place with a tripod, and I used the timer to take the picture (to eliminate any user shake (The palm doesnt have a timer, so I had to touch the screen to take the picture, but it was still in the tripod mount)

In all the tests the E5 produced pictures that were a little blurry. It lacked the sharpness of the N82/N86. The Palm had a fake overexposed look to it, but it was still sharp and defined.

Of course in low/no light scenarios the N82 was much better. Surprisingly the E5's flash held up well, even at 5 feet in a dark room.

I know all 4 of these camera phones are completely different, but these are the current camera phones that I own. I'm going to sell at least 1 of them in the near future, so I needed this test for my own benefit.

Hopefully, Nokia will tweak the E5's camera a bit to sharpen the images.

If anyone cares to see sample shots, I can upload them. (I have a feeling me and Boxyyy may be the only 2 people that even know/care about the E5 at this time.

You dont have to apologize here, you can just pm me.
I do know how to use my bb on the other hand i suggest you might delve into it a bit more before responding like u did and, to top it off being wrong also with the response.
Pixel pipe is not for bb and the beauty of pixel piupe it that it allows me to post to numerous websites at once http://pixelpipe.com/destinations/add i can post to anyone of these with a click of a button.
I did not mention the other devices, android or iphone because the discussion was about why i chose the e72 FOR MY NEEDS over the 9700, i know pixelpipe is available for them, i had it on my 3gs although if its not jailbroken its a waste of a product because i have to sit and wait for the upload before i do anything, so im stuck on the pixelpipe screen and cant go to any other app or anything until it downloads.

I am not trying to sell anyone on the e72 or 9700 for that matter they get what they get its there money, i was just explaining to kulprit as he explained to me why he uses the bb is all. :buddies:

@Snotick I'm glad you got it working! I also got Smartconnect to work flawlessly and I no longer connect to 3G when at school or at home :)

Also, if you don't mind my asking, how do I make it so that my GPS doesn't use 3G data when I don't want it to? The phone says it comes with stand alone GPS but so far no matter what I've tried it always connects to the 3G network :/

I'm really hoping there's a way to turn off A-GPS and just use Standalone until I get an unlimited data plan.

Quite frankly I feel underwhelmed about this model. Hopefully more pops up under the hood and this is a bare bones model. IMO it looks like an e71/72 for teenagers/early 20's (especially since they complain the most about charging phones).

Hopefully a e73 will pop up someday and they use a higher res screen and improved camera.

lolz, Your right.. Atleast I spoke that truth about that. :D

Claim does not mean tested by consumer..

You have to take it from the Consumer.. Not from them, you gotta understand their selling the product they would throw you all the good stuff so you will buy into it.

Like what you said.. They do not get it as a Company!!

I do not know If I can sacrifice my front facing camera, BP-4L tested battery, Flash light feature, and dual charging for a RAM.

I know the E72 lacks RAM.. But it hasn't gotten to the point yet to pissed me off like the BB browser.

Not sure if I can be of help to you.

When I had my E5 (and all fp2 devices) I put my phone in offline mode to set up any of my Email (gmail) mailboxes. I also do this for MFE. If I remember correctly, with MFE, I had to set email update as off, and both calenders and contacts to "erase items on phone"

So, in the end, I would have two different email accounts. 1- my regular gmail account that syncs only email. 2- my mfe account (which is the same email address as #1) that syncs my calendar and contacts.

Again, not sure if this is what you are looking for.

to turn off A-GPS, you need to go to Settings> General> Positioning> Positioning Methods> uncheck Assisted GPS. Not sure what the Network Based GPS is.

Turning off A-GPS will slow down your lock on times from startup.

You also want to go into options> settings> Internet in Ovi Maps and change in "connection" to offline. This keeps it from opening a data connection every time you start up Ovi maps. If ever need to do a search for a POI, you can always go back in and change the connection to online. You can then set the access point to a known wifi to do your searching. That way it doesnt cost you any money.

Interesting, presumably you had IMAP gmail cause the MFE gmail didn't work? If that's what I have to do to get gmail an google calendar, then that's what I have to do.....

Thanks for the reply

e5 has flash light feature also, battery we will have to see, skype calling you are doomed .
look at pic and by space bar flash light feature is there. :buddies:

Glad to see some positive reviews for the E5, I'm not in love with the metal bar, but outside of that, it seems like a great device, more so for $169 that amazon is offering. With 256 RAM I'm sold for a QWERTY.

A couple more things that I have found over the last couple of days

1) the light sensor may be faulty on my E5. When I am in certain low/medium light situations. My screen will change brightness back and forth. It would be OK if picked one or the other, but it flickers every 10 seconds. Very annoying.

2) the screen also acts weird at times. When I lock the phone, the screen stays on for 8-10 seconds. The screen then goes dark for 5-6 seconds, then comes back on for 5-6 seconds before finally turning off and locking for good.

3) I finally figured out why my camera was taking blurry pictures. I thought the E5 had the enhanced fixed focus lens. It doesnt, it has a fixed focus only. The reason my Palm Pre was taking clearer pictures, was because the Pre has enhanced fixed focus. The E5's camera will probably be the reason that I won't keep this phone.

I stand corrected, FF 5MP cam. I LOL at their Full Focus cam. Add that to 256k colors on screen still at QVGA. WTF?

Battery life on E5 looks to be mixed, way more GSM talk time, less 3G talk time, long standby. We'll see when it drops. Well, I won't. There's no way I'm picking up one of these.

If you have an iPhone plan, yes, you can use an adapter and put your SIM into a Nokia E-device and everything works properly, from voice calls right through the calendar and contacts synchronisation through the Exchange servers.

Damn!! They removed the calendar button too, and the contact button? WTF!!

Congrats to RAM huggers..

I don't know if I can sacrifice the features I will lose If I get the E5.

Feels like an iPhone.. Skype video call using the back camera..
