*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia 6650 (RM-324 6650d-1bH) NAM 3G 850/1900

Well, I wouldn't say it's the most easy to use phone, but as I said before, it's my first "smart phone". What's really starting to annoy me is the memory issue. I accidentaly had the music player running in the background along with the messaging software and when I went to answer a call it gave me the "insufficient memory" message and I lost the call. Then, when the calling party called me back, I was able to answer apparently because the phone was already open. There is a noticable lag often when I open the phone if it's been closed for several hours. I am left staring at the "keypad unlocked" message for a full 2 or 3 seconds during which time the keypad is unresponsive. Same problem with the theme I downloaded. It has custom icons included, but when I go to a menu I often catch a view of the factory icons for a split second before the custom icons load up. I have been pondering installing magic key but if it does run in the background I'm thinking it will only make matters worse. I'm not ready to take it back yet, but am keeping track of the days I have left. As for the volume issue, I leave it on the outdoor profile, that seems to work fine for me so far. I have had no problems with random restarts or crashes...yet.

Glad to hear it. The 6650 is a fine phone, but only after you "make it your own," to quote American Idol judges. It took the remapping and disabling of a bunch of keys (declutterization), but now it does what I want, when I want.

Well, after reading thru ths entire thrd, I'm still on the fence. I have about another 10 days to return the phone.
(!) the crunchd keypad (compared T-Mob) is an adjustmnt, but then so is the tactile feedback compared to th N75.
(!) a key mapper *should* give back *some* of the AT&T crippling/branding from the S60 normalcy (d-pad is not customizable; menus are diff; cannot customize active standby & undeletable crap-apps for starters.
(?) Don’t quite understand the commentary on the ATT Nav though. I just got the unlimited data so is there additional charges for using the app?
(?) Does anyone know the diffs between FP1 & FP2? I’m thinking of finding a 6290. Although there’s no GPS and it’s only FP1, there’s no branding issues and the keypad speaks for itself. And yes, it IS a flip & S60, which I believe is what this thread is based on ……. :)

Go to the MyAccount website, under Features, there it is listed as an Additional $9.99 per month to use the ATT Nav software. I think there is a prompt on the phone the first time you run the app advising you of the additional charge. Google Maps for symbian does work with the GPS.

For my purposes, this is a good phone. MagicKey is a must for me to disable the PTT key and the ATT Nav button. I really don't want a big QWERTY or touchscreen candy bar, and like the flip. There are plenty of freeware and shareware programs to customize this phone to fit my needs.

^good suggestions.

the MUST DO list for me is to somehow get rid of the at&t software and branding along with some of the locked files, themes and applications. i tried to do it using xplore (even change the attributes) but it won't work.

I just downloaded I-Nigma and it's giving me an "Unknown Camera Error"

did anyone else experience this? from combing through this thread that didn't seem the case.

I had the same problem. I tried reinstalling it several times, but it never did work right. I've got NeoReader on there now though an it works well enough. There's not a version specifically for the 6650, but I installed the N75 version. It seems like only half of the camera view finder works so it looks kind of weird, but when I tried scanning a code it went through.

Odd - I-nigma works on mine, but Nokia's own scanner app fails!
Haven't tried Neoreader yet, and don't intend to (unless it can read text converted to barcode, and copy it to the clipboard - i-Nigma doesn't do that, I think!)

Has anyone ever managed to install Skyfire on this phone? I've cleaned it up to the point of having 37MB free but I still can't install it. My mini is out of commission and I've been using this phone till I make up my mind about the next one.

I checked on my 6650, and couldn't get past "Memory Full" error. The low RAM on the 6650 is a killer on lot's of stuff, even if you open up storage memory.

Thanks for trying. Out of curiosity, about the version that you tried. Was it downloaded from Ovi or was it something you had downloaded before they made it an Ovi only thing?

Darn! I never made to "Memory Full" error. I couldn't even install the Ovi version, only some old ones I had here. I hate Ovi and their hand-holding.

Thanks again. I might go get me a G2 tonight
