*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia 6650 (RM-324 6650d-1bH) NAM 3G 850/1900

it's really disappointing to hear people complaining about things like the keypad after having owned it for a whole 24 hours. every phone is different, and takes getting used to. You use a phone for so long, then switch to another, well of course you're "not going to like it".

No actually, not at all...lol

I too have decided to get this phone. I went to my local at&t office during my lunch break and got the credit check and everything in line for my number transfer. they say I'll be able to pick up my new phone either tomorrow or the day after. and with the 69.99 plan (450 min + unlimited message and web) I can also get the GPS for 5 dollars a month instead of 9.99 so I'm down with that. that's a lot better than a regular smartphone plan.

Yeah, that's the problem I've been discovering too. I was about ready to just get the plastic "snap in" holster, but I really wanted something that would protect the screen. I'll have to look into that case at my local Wal Mart. As for the other case, I contacted the Ebay seller http://stores.ebay.com/BestSources and they said it was no problem. They will refund my money upon their receipt of the case. I'm going to be sending it out tomorrow.

PPPEater, thanks for the keypad locking info, I'm well aquainted with locking it from the outside while closed, because I don't have the auto lock function turned on. Unfortunately, I never have to unlock the keypad after opening the phone, so that really threw me when the screen didn't come up  Now I know what to do!

Wow, I'll try to answer as many as I know:

3. For some reason (money I'm sure) AT&T limits ring tones to less than 300Kb. In practice it seems like this is about how much of a song you'd hear before the ring repeats anyway (depending on the phone?), but it also means you'll need to edit most songs to pick out the best 30 seconds or so. I think I've used Audacity for this. I'm sure there's a how to on howardforums.

5. I took the memory card directly from my Samsung and it had no trouble with any of that media. I also have a 3.5 Meg file set as my a pic for one of my contacts, so it doesn't appear to be a problem. RAM might be a problem for larger files, but I use Nokia Image Exchange and haven't had a problem

6. Yes I am able to open .txt files

7. Yes gmail app works

10. I think it played an .avi from my samsung. I can probably check this later today

11. I'm not aware of a flight mode; could be there

12. Yes the record app is included; there are 3rd party apps which do a better job of managing this

13. I also think this works, but have not tried it.

Several of these items might be allowed as standard or extensions to S60 so you might search for apps for S60 that fulfill your requirements.

I did disable javascript like you suggested but I haven't used it much since then... I think I like Opera Mini better anyways and it also has all my bookmarks stored so I don't really feel the need to switch browsers... I think OM is faster too and I can stream video from the mobile YouTube sight with it, etc. ...

I've got another post covering the technical aspects either today or tomorrow (likely tomorrow), such as the RAM and other things. I wanted to talk about the differences in the branded US vs. branded Euro one, though, by itself. I need to confirm if the Euro one has FM radio or not.

Not sure as to the cause, but I have noticed it heating up both on a long call and when using a bluetooth headset. No problems so far, my previous phone (Pantech C300) would also get warm on a long call too. I just figure it's normal, unless it's burning your hand or something like that.

Red was available ... I asked for and got the silver (brushed metal finish). Didn't get a chance to look at the red, and didn't care to - the store was about to close.

I'm curious if nokia will be selling it unlocked and unbranded in maybe a few months. I know it's an AT&T exclusive right now but my wires 6290 will need replacing soon and she wanted a 3g phone

There is no signed copy of MagicKey. You have to google for the workaround to get it installed.

The phone does not charge through the USB port. You can buy a USB charger which has the Nokia charging jack on one end and an USB jack on the other to connect to your computer.

Well I believe they're hard to come by, but if you can get your hands on one then I say go for it... I considered getting it about a year or two ago when I got my 6267... it looked like a pretty cool phone... It has Edge class 32 which I've used with Tmobile and was plenty fast... I haven't owned one myself so I can't be sure of the no stereo bluetooth thing but everything I read on it lead me to believe that it didn't have stereo bluetooth and it said that it could only handle up to 2GB SD cards but MAYBE if you tried a bigger card it MIGHT work... get one if you can... For me, I'm getting the N79NAM...
