*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia 6650 (RM-324 6650d-1bH) NAM 3G 850/1900

Yeah, it sounds like you had a rough experience. I would return my 6650 if it displayed the same behaviors. For me, I was looking for a small (flip) phone on AT&T and this was the best they offered. It was also free on contract! If I need to upgrade to something like the N97 then no real loss for me and I have a BB through work for all my email/data needs at the moment. Again, I'm only two weeks into the 6650 but it's been solid so far. :)

Yeah, that's mainly what I use i-nigma for. The FF plugin I use is called Mobile Barcoder. I highly recommend it. You just mouseover the plugin's icon to display a barcode of the current tab's URL, which i-nigma can read into the phone.

Here's a question. The trick up a few posts ago about deleting some AT&T Bloatware is not working for me, What am I doing wrong? I've got X-Plore on my phone, and I go and find the installation files and install them to my memory card. What I do then is check to see if they're gone from the phone and they're still there. I'm tryin to get rid of MobiTV, XM, Weather, and the games. I wanna keep PTT, Banking, and Navigator cause I see myself using those in the future. But is it MANDATORY to install them to card and format? I don't wanna nuke them, it'd be nice to have XM on my card for in the future if I want it, but not takin up my ROM which I can't seem to get above 12 mb. Just a little info bout my phone: Installed Tracker to remap buttons and it keeps memory at 12 or so, though starting the phone up shoots it up to 18 and then drops it down over time. I also have Salling Clicker cause I like to write scripts for it, but don't think that takes up alot. Also, is it possible to move the installation files to your card? I know those take up the most KB and every little bit counts. For 40MB to start with, just turning on the phone seems to take up 27MB by itself. I know this can't be right, or am I just over-analyzing it all? Somebody give me some idea here, please.

Hello,

So far, I like the phone.
At first, I was a little intimidated by it, seeing that compared to my previous phone (Moto V262) it can be quite complicated.
But after a week or so of use, I have no problems finding/using any of the features that I want to find/use.
Keep in mind, I don't access the internet with this phone, neither do I use it for e-mail, instant messaging or GPS (I have an in-hand navigation system, it's called a MAP :hehehe:.)
This is my first Nokia phone.

The reasons that I decided to go with this phone:

It's a flip phone, I don't like using a bar phone that is only 4"+- long (I made that mistake once,) for me, a flip phone fits the contours of the human head much better than a bar/slider/pda thingy style phone, and the ear piece and mic are where they are supposed to be, next to my ear and mouth. Also, you don't have to worry about your main screen getting scratched up and there is not much of a chance of accidentally dialing your mothers phone number going down the road at 3 am :bulging:. (After all these years, I still can't convince her that it wasn't me...)

It has a large battery.

I like the metal exterior, sure Stainless Steel can get some scratches eventually, but for a phone, it is near bullet proof.

It has a microSD(HC) slot and supports up to 8gb and is hot swappable, unlike the Motorola's that I looked at, where you had to remove the battery just to switch out memory cards.

The call quality is great, I can hear people on the other side load and clear, and they can hear me.

It's pretty slim (compared to my old phone.)

It has a nice quality of build, and it has some weight (or heft) which I like, even though most of that weight is the battery :hehehe:.

Even though I figure that most phones nowadays have a USB port, it is still something that I was wanting in a phone.

The camera is nothing to write home about, but if you mess around with the white balance settings (Automatic, Sunny Incandescent and Fluorescent) the pics aren't that bad (when viewing them on the phone.) I haven't used the video cam yet, so I can't say anything about that.

I haven't had a problem with the cover screen touch buttons. I like that I can open up the Music Player, Profiles, Stopwatch, Timer, Calendar and Camera from the outside. I've rubbed the outside screen and the buttons on the sleeve of my shirt to clean it of finger prints, and that never activated any of the buttons and I leave it and the keypad unlocked (for now.)

I have only pressed the PTT button by accident only once during a call and when I realized it I just selected "No" and it went away. I've only kit the PTT button by accident with the cover closed once or twice and again just selected "No".

The GPS button isn't really a problem for me after getting used to the D-Pad, and if I do hit it, I can just exit out of it. And I don't hit it very often.

The 300kb limit (imposed by AT&T I gather) on ringtones is a pain, but I either cut the time down or reduced the bit rates and use the ones I want anyway.

Themes are nice (I'm using Only Blue by Larsson: http://www.symbianthemes.us/free,nokia/10376,only_blue/.)

The Symbian S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 is the only Symbian OS that I have ever used, and I like it, after the initial breaking in period.

As far as RAM is concerned, I haven't had any memory errors. As you can see from the above, I only use this phone as a phone and I am not a power user. If someone is wondering why someone like me (or someone who uses a phone the way that I do,) I just figured that IF I ever NEEDED a smartphone, this would be a good way to bridge the gap for me and get used to it.

I haven't got around to transferring any music besides ringtones, alerts etc., so I haven't used the Music Player much, just to listen to a few tones. But from what I have seen of it, I'm on the lookout for a Music player that is more like winamp or Windows Media Player.

Nokia's predictive text is kind of freaky at first, if you are not used to it, but after awhile I'm OK with it.

So overall for me, this is a great phone that does what I need it to do, and it just happens to have some nifty extras that I may or may not use, but will be there if I ever need them.

I can't think of anything else at this time, but if you have any questions in particular, let me know and I will try to address them.

Cheers,

Jon

P.S. I installed Virtual Key and when I tried to remap the GPS button, it showed the button as "shutter" and also let the AT&T Nav open up. So I never could get Virtual Key to work, but it could be operator error, or I could have just downloaded the wrong version.

i like this phone it seems large enough i hate small flip phones and not a fan of any screen less then 2.4 usually but this one is really clean looking good job ATT you steal yeat another point from TMO

I really want to grab one of these to bring me through the gap between the N96 trial and buying the 5800 NAM. I really don't want to sign a contract though. :(

Edit: Oh, and Forum Nokia shows that the device only has 20mb of available RAM on boot, which would explain the constant memory errors and restarts/crashes.

has anyone had any luck debranding it or trying to flash it to the tmobile firmware, there, all the at&t crap is making me think about taking back the phone and it eats of the memory, blocks basic s60 settings and so on

:2thumbs: Cool add-on. Could have really used it earlier today trying to get the old Shazam unzipped and installed without a data cable or bluetooth.

I'm pretty sure I picked the N75. It's not the same version of the Symbian OS, but it's basically the identical phone in every other internal respect. And 4.2 is running just fine for me.

Yeah, I wondered what that crazy barcode was when I went to download my theme. I had no idea what I was supposed to do, so I downloaded it the old fashioned way. Whenever my unlimited data plan kicks in, I'll look into more of these apps.

On a different note, I went back to the store I purchased my phone from yesterday, and after explaining to them that I'd had a couple random restarts and a failure to read the sim card they gave me a new sim. When I purchased the phone they just transferred my old Cingular card into the new phone. So now we'll see how this goes. Funny thing, I went into a different store that was on the way when I was running some errands and they told me it would be a $20 charge to get a new sim. When I went back to my seller they did it for free. Either way, I'm curious to see if I get better reception at work tomorrow. So long as I don't have any more crashes, I'll probably keep this phone. Wish me luck!
