*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia 6650 (RM-324 6650d-1bH) NAM 3G 850/1900

yes, all these undeletable locks is buggin' me. has everyone been able to remove and uninstall the "read only" images, sounds, and themes via data cable?

as of right now, i love this phone. the build might be simple but it's very classy.. it's my 1st venture into the S60 format but there's just so much to do!

AT&T's policy is that smartphones with QWERTY keyboards have to have the 'Smartphone connect' plan, whereas smartphones without don't. Silly, I know.

Just wait for it to hit Best Buy, Radio Shack, or similar, and snag it without the MIR nonsense. :)

Sorry, I think we're conflating two things, and I'm not 100% sure of the right terminology and therefore partly (mostly?) at fault.

My 6650 supports Google Maps. With Google Maps, I can get a GPS fix on myself and ask it to plot out directions somewhere for me. I imagine I can download Nokia Maps and do the same thing.

I don't think Google Maps supports "following" you as you drive somewhere, telling you (text or audio) when you're nearing a turn and keeping track of the turns you've already made, recalculating automatically if you're off course, etc. I don't think Nokia Maps does that for free either. If anyone knows of something that does that for free, let me know. (If anyone knows what the proper terms are to distinguish these two things, please let me know that too.)

Has anyone had the Idle Screen crash? I took my phone out of my pocket and saw the application closed message and it was the Idle Screen. I rebooted the phone many times throughout the day and kept getting the same error. The phone worked and I could go into all the menus but if I go back to the Idle Screen, it would close and just have a blank screen.

Then a day later, the phone turned itself off. When I turned it back on, everything was back to normal, like nothing happened. I Google searched and someone reported getting 3 6650s that did this before switching to another phone. Has anyone else had this problem?

You can install any of the S60 compatible GPS programs and they should work. (I could not get Amaze, a Java GPS one, to work though.) I have both Nokia and Google working on my locked 6650 fold (though the AT&T one gives better directions so far).

This happened to me as well, but the next day it was fine???
I did reset the phone a few days later, just to be safe though (*#7370#)

I hope Nokia/AT&T will release a FW update soon, that will fix this, plus fix whatever it is that causes the video quality to stay on the lower setting even though you change it back to "Maximum", as well as some bluetooth issues (reboots some times when paired to my Plantronics 855). If there is no update soon, I'll probably switch to a different phone and give Nokia one more chance...

1. worst than n75 because of resolution limit 176 x 144

2. no but battery life is great on 3g, ihave imap gmail set to 1 hr/

3. no

and Share on Ovi should work but doesnt even when it installs, makes no since really

Tracker trial installed, HTF do you setup a keymap in this app? Talk about confusing!

NM, figured it out. Works great, just remapped the GPS button to Jaiku.

Yeah but there's no 3G (only 2100 mhz) and I believe it doesn't have stereo bluetooth... Also no US warranty and I believe it can only handle up to 2GB SD cards...

I think it depends on the phone manufacturer, my Motorola and Nokia unlock codes needed to be emailed while HTC was unlocked right away.

Okay, now for something completely different. I purchased a belt case off Ebay that has a magnetic closure. I never thought that would interfere with the operation of a cell phone, but with the 6650 it apparently has the ability to unlock the exterior keypad, and make the main screen time out even while closed. I flipped the phone open after taking it out and the screen was blanked out, and remained so even after pressing several buttons. It went back to normal after closing it and opening it again. It doesn't matter how I put the phone in the case, it will even unlock the touch pad simply by passing the phone in front of the magnet closure on the outside with the battery facing the magnet. I just did a search and see now that the N series phones had a magnetic sensor to switch screen orientation. Anyway, I haven't noticed my bedside clock radio having any effect on it, so I'm guessing it's a rare earth magnet in close proximity? Now I need to tell that guy on Ebay that I have no use for this case. We'll see how that goes.

Make sure that none of the buttons are pressed. Sometimes the PTT button or side scroll buttons are depressed a little bit, and if any button is pressed, it stops the phone from recognizing the Power On command.
