*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia 6650 (RM-324 6650d-1bH) NAM 3G 850/1900

I think I'm returning mine... I just ordered an N79 NAM from Amazon.com ... only $401.99 with free shipping!... I'm sick of putting up with the imperfections of this phone... I'd rather pay more and have no headache... and I put my purchase on my Amazon store card which means no interest for 6 months!... this phone crashes daily with me and I miss calls occasionally and actually, it's kind of heavy!... I can feel the difference between this phone and my 6267 for sure... and the N79 is even lighter than my 6267 at only 97 grams!... plus it has an accelerometer and FM transmitter... I wish they made a flip phone that had specs that good, but oh well, I guess I can put a screen protector on it and get used to the candybar styling... who's with me?!...

Don't mean for this to sound too stupid BUT - anyone know a way to receive FM Radio stations (not necessarily just music) on a phone that doesn't have built-in FM?

I found a site that was exactly what I was looking for 'cept it was only Dutch stations - which doesn't do me much good in trying to listen to ESPN in Dallas.

I've tried going to station web sites and getting the streaming broadcasts but that doesn't seem to work too well. Problem is I've got the Nokia S60 6650 phone that I kinda like but it doesn't have FM - which I use nearly every day.

Any input would be appreciated ...

thank you so much for your reply! yay its' time for a new phone and i think i'm gonna get this phone!

also, do you know where i would get this 3rd party gps? does nokia and goole map have turn by turn or/and voice directions as well?

I loved the keypad on the Nokia 6263 (t-mobile's version of the 6267), and i do miss it. Way harder to message on the 6120c actually

If i come to ATT i think i'll pick up the red one.

Well that sounds good. It's a good browser. I should use it more. Can you use Y-tasks and set it to be your default browser? I'm not sure if a Java app can be made to be a default app. Opera 9.5 for S60 needs to get made. I would pay for it.

To make even more confusion...
There are two different Google Maps programs that will run on the 6650.
I am using the Symbian version number 2.2.0.13. I found it on the google website in the Symbian phone section. Downloaded file: GoogleMaps.sisx. This one uses the GPS.

The other version, that I don't use is a Java Midlet which you can download directly to your phone. I think the version is 2.3. It is a more recent version, but will not use the GPS.

I hope Google will upgrade the Symbian version soon.

I just used the link on the page saying unrecognized model (Download Opera Mini! link just below "Please try to install this version:") and it appears to download 4.2. The only issue I've had so far (just downloaded it) is that I needed to set the Network Access check to "Ask first time" in App Manager > Installed Files > Opera Mini

Yeah, when the Idle Screen was crashing, I rebooted the phone maybe 3 times and made a couple of calls. I didn't even charge it. The next day, the phone shut itself off and then, everything was back to normal. I have been pretty happy with this phone up to this point. I'll have to wait and see if this problem occurs again.

Wow! sure looks like a Prototype. ATT firmware does not have a Download folder.
The color change failure along with the volume bug may both be the result of incomplete firmware on a prototype.
If you press and hold the menu key, it will list some of the programs you are running. In order to get a better idea you would need to install something like JbakTaskMan. Another good program to load would be X-plore. That would enable a little better look around the file system.

There is actually a magnet in the top part of the phone (right by the AT&T logo it seems based on my paper-clip test) that has something to do with the flip operation. My guess is it is used to tell the phone when it is opened or not. You get a blank screen because the other magnet must be interfering and making the phone think it is opened thus causing time out. To unlock, press Left soft-key and then * (similar to Razr).

FYI If you are quick, you can also lock the same way (press Left soft-key and then *). The outside is locked (when closed) similarly by swiping (this works better than "pressing") the left soft-key and the right-soft key.

It don't think it comes installed (remember, AT&T doesn't know this is a smartphone), but you might be able to download and install it from the Nokia web site.

does anyone know how what I need to do to unlock my 6650. I contacted AT&T a few last week to get the subsidy (sim) unlock code and they contacted me yesterday with it. I thought that all I needed to do was to put my Tmobile sim into the phone and start it up. The phone would then ask for the code. But all I get is an error message stating "incorrect sim"
Is there a special process or menu that I need to do to enter the code.

Thanks

Looks like Telcel, carrier in Mexico was the target.
They have a bunch of Nokia's on their equipment pages, but don't show the 6650. Maybe Nokia made up some for testing, and that's what yours is.

I did almost the same. Was looking at the 6650, but today on Newegg the N78 NAM is 259.00 after code and free shipping. Hope I don't find the keypad hard to use like some others.
