NY Knicks, why r they such a big part of NYC culture? ?

is it about pride, the garden, its the only ball team in ny? please elaborate for research paper
 
to be honest the knicks are overrated. they only have 2 titles yet they get put in the same class as the bulls, celtics, and lakers. the only reason people know they are a franchise is because of the city they play in. and their arena, the most famous in the country, wasnt even made famous by the knicks, it was famous long before them.
 
New York hasn't had a good basketball team for years so they want to bring back the excitement in New York
