Non English actresses putting on English accents

Well shut my mouth you're quite right, somewhere along the line I'd been misinformed that he was English through and through, but it seems he's all-American :D

American here. I've always thought Hugh Laurie's accent far too nasal and false sounding but I don't know anyone else over there that would agree with me...I think Damian Lewis did an amazing American accent in Band of Brothers that was flawless.

Watched Year One the other night and Olivia Wilde has a pretty sexy English accent. It was the usual prim & proper interpretation but was still pretty decent.

In the same film a sexy young thing has a US accent all the way though and when I looked her up it turns out she's a Brit!
Juno Temple

It really is - the bizarre thing is, the american actors all try and do british accents and the british actors try to do american.

it's star-studded in a sense, if you think of the likes of katherine heigl and the woman who played penny in 'lost', but it's just a terrible, terrible film.

How can we have gotten to page 3 of a thread talking about good/bad english/american accents and not mentioned the ghastly attempt of an english accent by Don Cheadle in the Ocean's trilogy? He should have been arrested and charged with aural assault.

As much as I think she is passable actress, Michelle Ryan did a credible job with her american accent on Bionic Woman - shame, she probably spent more time perfecting her accent than she did filming the entire series :)

Have to agree on both points there - Don Cheadle channeling Dick van Dyke was just beyond laughable.

And Michelle Ryan's US accent was great - although I did find it funny that one of the episodes contained a storyline where she had to put on a british accent :)

Jamie Bamber's US accent in BSG was pretty good as well.

I was just about to say Natalie Portman as well. In V for Vendetta I think she managed to topple Dick Van Dyke in the worst English accent by any actor ever stakes.

And the best has to be Damien Lewis circa Band Of Brothers. Supposedly even Americans who saw the show thought he was American.

That'll teach me to write a post before reading all the previous posts... However since you agree with me I'm not bothered. :D

I googled and found a link to her being French but i'm not sure if the website was confusing the character and the actress.

It's also the first time i've picked up on the Vesper Lynd / West Berlin pun.

Angelina Jolie in Tomb Raider. I remember when it first came out and i wasn't that aware of who she was and i just assumed that she was English.

Not strictly speaking movies obviously, but James Marsters and Juliet Landau as Spike and Dru in Buffy both do very good English accents as did Alexis Denisof as Wesley.
