Nokia N95 Variation Guide for Noobs

I just ordered my "Nokia N95 8GB Black (Unlocked)" from the Nokia web site. I even paid for overnight shipping, but my order is pending 'awaiting customer contact'. sheez, i was really looking forward to having this phone early in the week.

i'm not sure why i'm drawn to the n95. i'm not dissatisfied with my iphone. i respond to more emails during work on my iphone than i do on my computer!

i hope the n95 isn't a let down~!

Okay i thought this thread was very useful... sooo useful it resulted in me signing up for this forum. As I've learned ALOT since reading the 7 pages of this thread I have a problem deciding which phone to get, N95-4, N95-3, Sony Ericsson G900, samsung i900. I'm upgrading from a S710a and I plan on keeping this phone for a very long time and I'm preferably a SE person. The N95-4 I just love b/c of the bigger screen and I keep asking myself will I want to use more than 8gb? My logic is as long as I have an external card I can always just upgrade the flash memory (n95-3, G900). I'm really leaning towards the n95-3 but everytime I see the n95-4 I feel as if I have to have it.

Feature wise all the phones have similar capabilities and honestly I'm not going to spend $600 on a phone and I know I can get the n95-3 for ~$450 shipped. The appealing part is that I can get the N95-4 for the same price. Ultimately my deciding factor is in the memory and features of the phone. Is there a phone that is better than the n95-3 to date? Will the n95-3 be able to support 16gb/ 32gb (is a firmware update needed?). Should I wait for the i900 or does the SE G900 compare to the nokia's? I would appreciate some insight.

-TIA

This deserves a sticky.

On top of this should be a real chart (probably made in excel, then take a screen shot) of all the features as far as screen size, battery size, RAM, US 3G, international 3G, etc...

GT is no Apple fanboy. He's a veteran of the S60 forums, though I'm about to kick him out if he doesn't update his profile with a smartphone. . .

I may be buying N95-3 on Craigslist. What do I look for to confirm that it is a real N95-3? Is there a list of SN's available somewhere? Thank you

Good idea. I think I'll put that together now.

Edit: I take that back. I'll put it together when I have my Windows machine back with Office on it. I've never used a Linux solution for Excel files and I'm not about to learn now.

There are already 16gb sdhc cards ($30-$60) available and the 32gb ones are just rediculously expensive (~$200-$300). so if i purchase a n95-3 and a 16gb sdhc card it'll work seamlessly without any firmware/software upgrade to the phone?

Thanks Jonny for the info. I just pre-ordered the N95 8gb from J&R for $649 shipped. I was assured by Jason that it was the NAM version. I hope is ships soon. :D

No Firmware is required, it already supports 16Gb, though i don't know about 32GB.

Also the N95-3 has a couple of more features than the N95-4 (i.e:Video Editor) though the n95-4 has Auto Screen Rotation which is not found on the N95-3 but you can it by third party app. The N95-3 has a slightly briter screen that the N95-4, also the N95-4 screen has slighty less dpi.
