Nokia N95 Variation Guide for Noobs

yeah. thanks buddy. as i figured, the only difference is the 3g. and since i soooooo hate the north american 3g, the euro N95 8GB will do me just fine.
i live in edmonton alberta canada and my network is rogers. i have like approximately 15 different SIM cards so it will be easy for me to switch through networks as i travel. i mostly use UK and Germany 3G. but i dont use it like a teenager(i.e 24 hours).
so 3g wont hurt me alot.i can do without it for the 4/5 months i spend in canada. so i assume, NOKIA N95 8GB is the same as NOKIA N95-2.... right?
ohh, and one more thing? would anyone who bought this phone be knowing if you get a pouch/case/holder when you buy this phone, as in is it in the box, with the trademark NSERIES logo on the leather or whatever. coz my friend got hers( n95-1) and there was a case in the box.

Oh I thought the China made phones were knock-offs. The phones made in Finalnd seem to sell for about $200 more than the China made phones.

I saw what looked like an N95 with the whole face, not just the back, in a maroonish color for sale in a local electronics shop. I searched the Nokia site, google and here and have seen no mention of it being available like that. I'm pretty sure it's not a knockoff as the shop is pretty reputable.

Anyone seen one like it or have info on it?

Some crazy people around here and other places seem to think that the Made in Finland versions of the phone are of a better build quality than those with the Asian "Made by Nokia" logo (going so far as to actually pay $200 more for one), but it's all myths and lies. No one has any concrete evidence about any of them being made A) in different locations, and B) of varying degrees of build materials and quality.

i forgot to ask this earlier, but does the NAM N95-3/4 support a pedestrial mode with the GPS? with or without GarminXT or TomTom or Route66?

if so...i think i'm going to grab one asap...cant resist anymore, currently have a w910...:S

Ah well so much for being prepared before 3G rolls out. Guess I will continue waiting for the Xperia X1 or something else. Thanks Jonny!

No phone you buy now will have 3G that works with T-Mobile's (including this one).

Also the N95-2 is the 8GB version with 2100 (non-US) 3G band (T-Mobile requires 1700 as well and their 2100 is not compatible with the 2100 in Europe.

If you want a phone that works on T-Mobile 3G when it's released, you need to look for the 2100/1700 band or it should be quintband (5 band)

Love the thread, thanks OP. Question though, so North American HSDPA is 850/1900. Some places like tigerdirect.ca state NAM version but still "Band / Mode: HSDPA 2100, HSDPA 850 / 1900" or other places even "2100" . How do I know for sure that it's the NAM version and the 3g will work here?

Here's a fast-and-dirty chart showing the info posted by JonnyBruha on page one. I take no credit as all I did was put it into Excel and take a screen shot of it. :)

Oh trust me, you're crazy. What say you about the Made in Finland N95-3 with the internal hardware and software of a -1? They may be made in different places, but the build quality is the same. Differences are on a handset to handset basis.

quick question(s):

On Wiki and the initial post, both say the US versions (n95 / 8gb) will only be available on AT&T bands. How would this affect a person based in the U.S. traveling frequently to Canada and Asia (Hong Kong, Taiwan, China)?

Would my phone and web features continue to work? As well, would AT&T support voip anywhere? Apologies for what may seem as 'noob' questions; my current phone dials and receives calls, but job is demanding something more tech-friendly.

Thanks guys and girls in advance!

i understand that tmobile does not have 3G right now, but my question is that when they will, will this specific n95 8gb phone that i'm buying from ebay work with that or not?

check out this engadget thread on the n95 8gb:

http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/01/07/hands-on-with-the-nokia-n95-8gb-for-north-america/

this is the model i'm hoping my phone to be (with the "exact replica of the European version with the 2100MHz WCDMA radio surgically removed and replaced with an 850 / 1900MHz counterpart for speedy data in these lands." for 3G)

thanks!
