Nokia E61 upgrade firmware like N80?

Would it be possible to upgrade the E61's firmware in the same way that the N80's has? I don't know that much about S60 devices at all, and certainly about firmware upgrading.

Also, has anyone using the E61 on cingular's network gotten the Network Busy error? I get it every so often and am going almost out of my mind!

Actually its available now!

I'm starting my stopwatch...... NOW!

(note: its a development release)

But it didn't happen with any of my other phones except the N91!

And, @angel_wing0: I checked that ENTIRE thread (yup, all 50 pages) and nothing on the E61. Next time, kindly verify your info, or at least post that you aren't sure...

I had the same problem, and it was the service and not the phone. It was area specific. Only the tower by my office gave me any trouble.

well to flash the language pack u have to flash the phone, u can flash it with the same firmware though and change the language pack, no problem

I hate to be one of those forum people who does this...but I Hate this kind of statement.

What I know is this....with the N90 I had... reception was poor - Guess Why...Because the antenna was at the bottom of the rear of the handset and with my particular body make up, the waves just got blocked. Once I knew this (it was in the manual)...I held the unit upside down when on calls sometime and wham excellent reception.

Radio wave frequency is very particular about a lot of different things, so its hard to say the phone has poor reception without quantifying waaay more for each persons situation.

I wish I could update firmware on the device really easy, but havent had a need to yet. No probs so far.

It's funny you mention this because I am getting the "network busy" error message a little bit more than with previous phones it seems. I am on the Fido/Rogers network in Canada.

Anyone else getting this error?

More than anything, they seem more likely than 6682 or 6230 to just give up and drop the call rather than hanging on and waiting out a small (in time) dead spot. My 6230 would be more than happy to have blank audio for 4 or 5 seconds before giving up. E61 seems to give up after only a couple.

Yeah, I saw someone else's post in the BB upgrade thread who said that putting the sim card back in solved the problem. Needless to say it worked. I actually didn't need to flash the e61 with a different variant but needed a completely different code. I believe it used to be Euro Silver A and should have been Euro Silver E. Thanks again!

I have successfully used phoenix, per the instructions in the thread to flash firmware on my E61. Base software stayed the same 1.0610.04.04 - I just changed variants from v19 APAC-R SG "English, Chinese" language to v01 Euro-A "English, Nederlands" to solve my contacts 'sorting by firstname/last name' problem... it now works great.

I'll write more about this later. This is exciting.... now all we need is a new release firmware.

My E61 gets absolutely stellar reception....so I guess your in depth study is not complete...

I wonder if the people with problems have set the Network settings properly for North America (i.e. GSM only).
