Nokia E61: BlackBerry Client

Hi All,

I just purchased a Nokia E61 but for the life of me I cannot find the Blackberry Connect Client software. Has anyone actually been able to get BES 4.0 to work on this phone? I am on the Rogers Network in Canada but the problem is all the fancy sites says there is BB connect support but I cannot find it and I have done a search on HOFO too. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

For pop3 and imap4 separate folders are created, but for Blackberry, only one. Similar to the experience on Blackberry, you see all emails flowing under one view. So, I'd say it is by design

guys if you go into messages/settings/email/blackberry go to the far right it says application

i have the first one on it its 2.1.0.63

but you get OTA updates on it as well and i got one today in the AM prolly when they updated it. mind you on on BES no client so may make a diffrence

what you guys got on yours?

We use Exchange 2003 SP2 (with all hotfixes) and BES 4.1. We never had a single issue with Outlook 2003 (with SP2 and hotfixes) and cached exchange mode. With that said we don't have 50 servers, so it might related to your topology.

As for the PINs, never had an issue, I installed and uninstalled the E61 bb connect client for different tests, everytime, i simply install the client on E61, run my outlook (whether locally or using rpc over http), run bbconnect desktop and it will assign the PIN and activate fine. With that said, we are running BES 4.1, so it may be the major difference. Since RIM licenses the BB connect, all the info you'll find is a generic licensing info (i'll check their non-public kb later on).

Subfolders are yes and no. If you select them to be synced with the E61 from BB Connect Desktop, you will see the messages coming into them, but they are not shown as folders, it is a single folder containing all the msgs from the folders you sync.

2.1.0.63 here, I have installed the one from Monday. What OTA updates are you refering to? I don't see any OTA updates for the BES Client

I emailed Hong Kong Nokia, their response is they have not launched Nokia E61 so they cannot help me

after installing the software on my e61, i go to find the pin and it shows a blank spot where the pin should be. shows my IMEI and that other thing IMSI (or what ever it is)

any tips?

PalMap,

Same settings as you, after reset it seems to be working again.. buggy maybe not sure. My company is using BES 4.0.

Did you have to pay for your MSN messenger client?

hey thanks for all your help you have been very helpful in my quest to wrestle this E61.

Hi Palmop,

I need your help, I originally deleted my BB software and reinstalled the new one that was posted. Now my problem is I can only send emails and not receive any idea why? i have done tried resetting the phone but I am so stuck now.

Thanks

hi- this message kinda sounds like you can use activesync on the desktop to sync locally- rather than the nokia pc suite. is this a typo? or is it possible with the mail for exchange client on the e61?

i'm also seriously confused about the blackberry client- i have it running on my desktop with mail re-direction, but how do i activate directly against the server? i don't see any option for "enterprise activation" like i would i on my 8700- i've searched all of the pdf manuals as well...

is anyone using the e61 with the blackberry client directly against the server without re-direction from the desktop?

No, ActiveSync for E61 is available at http://businesssoftware.nokia.com site and it works OTA, nothing is installed on the desktop for it.

There is no "Enterprise Activation" on Blackberry Connect software. If you have read the manual for the BBConnect, it is explained there how to activate/setup in details. Simply put the BBConnect Desktop uses Outlook's MAPI connection to activate the device on the server. (assuming your user is added to BES first)

The desktop software is NOT for doing the redirection, it is for activating and editing settings, like filters, should sent items be synced, etc.

It is available as of today from:

http://businesssoftware.nokia.com/blackberry_downloads.php

I got it working with Rogers. It only supports Email and Wireless Calendar. Now I am trying to get the web browser working. Apparently blackberry.net APN wont allow access to Internet. Wonder if I can get MDS running on this

this does not appear to be true- i tested this by killing my VPN connection and blackberry connect on my work machine, and sending myself email to my work address- they would NOT get to the e61 unless the machine had VPN access, very much like the traditional mail re-director...

PIN will be set by the Blackberry Connect Desktop. So once the client is set, you need to install Nokia PC Suite (if it is not installed already) and then installl BB Connect Desktop. Then run it. Check the documentation for full step by step info. (http://www.businesssoftware.nokia.com/blackberry_downloads.php)

For some strange reason, I removed the sim card put it back in the BB 7100R then replaced the SIM card back into my E61 and now the email is working again. I am so confused.
