Nokia E61: BlackBerry Client

1. According to docs No.
2. No, you'll need to use the Blackberry Connect Desktop for Nokia.
3. This is not a Blackberry OS, so the version numbers won't match. The Blackberry Connect software's version is 6.18.
4. Tell them to read the docs at http://businesssoftware.nokia.com/blackberry_downloads.php

so this doesn't function like a regular blackberry? then this will be a big problem since my company uses stright rim blackberry products. they just approved me to use this device as an exception because they thought that it works like a regular blackberry software. do you have any suggestions how i can get my work email as an alternative then?

BE VERY CAREFUL making broad statements such as this. This IS true only IF your Exchange Server is piggy backed with BES 4.0 or higher which allows for wireless setup.

I've got some heavy questions for you.
1> Personal Folders, is there an option to sync personal folders to the E61's memory card? If so could you post several jpegs, please AS THIS WILL BE HIGHLY sought after. Many users are using personal folders up to MS maximum 1 GB and this will be lovely on a 2GB card for BES users with said .pst's.

2> To what extent of control does a BES Admin have over the E61 via BB Connect? if its out of GPRS/EDGE service can they still lock the device if its on a WLAN 802.11b/g connection?

btw, not all of us have the time to read the E61 BB Connect manual nor would be able to follow it because the menu's are SO different to the 7290/8700 (OS 4.0/4.1). I little tip for others helping.

@ andresalazar; why on Earth would you use exchange cache mode in Outlook for MS Exchange? wouldnt that cause issues? You must use a laptop.

Common ppl flood the questions.

well, I have the file downloaded to the E61 but it wont install... It keeps giving me "certificate may not yet be valid, is expired or the phone's time/date are incorrect"
edit: i finally got it to work by setting the date to today 2008, i've gotten a PIN number (t-mo's BIS config site already recognized and accepted it as well)

now i'm trying to figure out how to get the service books on it (already tried to send them a few times manually from T-Mo's config site with no luck)

any tips?

It only supports Calendar and Email sync. No other things of Blackberry OS is supported, such as syncing contacts, MDS, etc.

If you have a Exchange Server, you can also use ActiveSync, it syncs cal, contacts and emails.

http://www.microsoft.com/exchange/evaluation/features/MobileAccessWP.mspx

Active Sync is an integral part for Microsoft Exchange 2003 and it is enabled out of the box. It is http/s based protocol allowing the user to sync their calendar, emails, contacts (and tasks on a Windows Mobile 5 device), over the Internet. Check with your Exchange IT guys at work for more info.

rx381,

"so this doesn't function like a regular blackberry?"

If you're asking will it work with Blackberry enterprise servers then yes. As PalMop states though some features are not synced such as contacts. To the BES server it should not matter you are using a BB connect client versus a RIM device. In both cases you get true "push" email.

By the way, you need to have Nokia PC Suite installed in order to setup your PIN for the blackberry desktop software. This is only needed though when you first install BB connect on your e61.

I am not able to click on the link and have it open the browser automatically, however, if you move the cursor to the link, then click options (left) you should see 'open link'

Not recieving my emails, but I can send.

My settings:
Default Mailbox: Webclient
Blackberry Service: On
Automore: on
Weekday auto-connect: On all day
Weekend Auto-connect: on all day

Service Books: Web Client (CMIME)

And I'm with Rogers

Is there a way to include attatchments?

@Lasala

Which connection are you trying to use to connect to the web? I had this error one time then it went away after a reset. I am using blackberry.net apn for Blackberry client and internet.com for web and others.

As for the chat clients, some new ones are coming out. I have been using eMSN and it has been great. Too bad it only supports MSN messenger only, but still works great (you may want to check it out too Sabesh)

@Harleydog

It goes under your Messaging - Email. You need to go to Messaging - Settings - Email - Blackberry and turn it on, read the full manual at businesssoftware.nokia.com/blackberry/files/BlackBerry_3.0_UserGuide_lang/9247380_EN_1_web.pdf

@2Slow

Are you roaming or on your local network? I have

Blackberry Service: On
Auto More: On
Weekday auto connect: On all day
Weekend auto connect: On all day
When roaming: Blackberry on

And messages come like within seconds. Do you know what is installed on server end? (BES and Exchange versions)?

actually is was not the same file- if you compare the file sizes, the newest one posted today was a few hundred kb larger...i installed it betting that at least some bugs might be fixed...sure enough, the odd ctrl chr being displayed on my home screen in front of the word blackberry disappeared, so at least they fixed that.

i installed the pc suite on my home computer and installed the bb software on my e61. do i need the nokia pc suite on my work computer to set it up? it says on my work's it website that i need the blackberry version 4.1 desktop software to set it up. so i can i still get it done this way?
