Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

I'm having this little problem with my ovi map. I recently updated my 5800 nam to v40 and used the ovi suite to installed the latest map with text to speech, but for some reasons the text to speech doesn't show up in the voice guidance, anyone know what's wrong? thx

Is there any other reason not to install to memory card, besides the speed? I was imagining that the installations get screwed up when memory cards are swapped... or something similar would happen..

I think my themes take up more space than my apps at ~4mb each. You think it's wise to put those on the card instead?

Well how many satellites does it find when you open google maps? In the top right of the screen it shows the number of satellites. Mine finds 6 satellites within 15 seconds typically. Its always very fast. Be sure to have agps turned on, though this should be on by default, it always is for me.

it's ok. i just use t9. i've already gotten the hang of qwerty while i was at it, but i type so much slower. it's because it doesn't help you or anything

it's not that ovi is slow. it's just that they just try to make it visually appealing while making it cumbersome to use. pc suite is like s60v3 and ovi is like s60v5 lol

I found something very weird that i never heard before. I send lots of mms, video, audio and pics.

Well today on a phone call i wanted to take a pic and send it to the guy on the phone. I opened the camera and took the pic. The icon to send message was there like normal. But i pressed it and it automatically sent the pic to the person on the active call. Didn't even have to compose a new message or anything. Just click and its sent.

This could be bad if you DON'T want to send to the person currently on the phone. Anyone ever seen this before?

Okay, I just tried the following product codes:

0577454 my phone's original code
0592207 NAM Region US Black
0591814 US Sangalo Black NAVI
0574994 NA BLACK

and I even rebooted my phone after each PC change. Nothing. Nada. No FOTA updates available. My phone is an RM-428 US (NAM) model purchased from Amazon. It has never had any custom firmware on it, always official (although I have used the alternate codes above for some updates) and has never, ever been able to see FOTA updates.

Anyone have any idea what's going on here?

Found the answer to my question - turns out I did not have a due date on my tasks, so when I synced, it auto-set the due date to today, and therefore showed up on the home screen. CHanging the due date to a date far in the future took care of the issue.

I changed the product code of my NAM XM from 0577454 to 0591814 with NSS and used NSU to attempt to update to v40 firmware. The update failed halfway, NSU said my phone disconnected (though I didn't disconnect it) and I tried to reconnect (pull battery, unplug USB, plug in USB, plug in battery, etc...) and NSU detected it and tried the update again, but same thing, NSU said the phone disconnected part way through. After the 2nd time, NSU never successfully connected again. My phone ended up bricked :( so I sent it into Nokia. Couple questions though:

1) Since it's bricked can Nokia tell that I tried to change the product code?
2) Has anyone seen this behavior before when updating firmware or have any idea what happened in my case?

When/If I get my fixed phone back from Nokia, I want to do everything possible to NOT have this happen again when I try to update my firmware. I'm using Win7 64bit.... I had to install NSU in XP compatibility mode, did that have something to do with my problems? Also, in my power settings, I have the "USB selective suspend setting" enabled, does this have something to do with my firmware update problem? And one final thing, I did change my product code in the past to 0574994 just to get the v31 update before it was official for 0577454, and I don't think I changed it back before changing it again to 0591814, does this matter?

Any comments or help will be appreciated!

My speakers distort as well, and I have the gap above the volume buttons...such a shame that they couldn't even get such little details right on a landmark device.

i have since transferred my own music to the 5800, and i dont have that distortion problem anymore AT ALL. so i dont know if its how those default songs were encoded, or maybe its just coincidence. but for now i'm extremely happy because playing my own music at full volume, the distortion is gone. very strange.
