Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

NokiaOnly, I think I had that problem too, but it was a delayed reaction. I was outside my house last night and couldn't connect to AT&T Internet; it said something like no internet connection available. I took the battery out and it's been OK since. Now, web surfing is much smoother and crisper. My 5800 hasn't frozen yet when I surf. Prior to the update, that use to happen once a day.

I don't think I can go back to regular keyboard. I find the touchscreen simple to operate. Works quite well. I just wish Operamini 5 would come out of beta. It's been a long time, 2 1/2 months.

I just use the shortcuts screen now so I wont have a reference of how many more steps it takes to get to send a message once I get the update. I am very excited to use the contacts as well. Still patiently waiting to do it the right way.

Nothing for me either with PC 0577454. But then that's par for the course. I don't know who these people are that claim FOTA updates are available, but my phone never finds FOTA updates.

The update server profile is in the firmware, and it's hidden (can't see it or edit it).

I'm still undecided about this new firmware. It has some really nice features, but they traded form for function on the home screen, and that kinda bugs me.

However, after more than week of steady use I can happily report that the new firmware is quite stable. The phone has performed flawlessly. No freezes, spontaneous reboots or dropped calls. I have had the occasional browser crash, but they have been fewer and farther between than on v31.

No software issues either. All the apps I have tried have performed as expected.

Overall I'd rate stability of v41.2.005 as better than v31.2.101.

If you are having trouble I'd suggest trying a a re-flash, and if that doesn't help, then hard reset, re-flash and manual reload. Never hurts to "clean house" once in a while.

Well im getting my 5800XM on Monday after 2 great years with my N81. Obviously i wont be getting the NAM, il get the normal European one,but i just want ta know what are your favourite apps in S60v5 for your 5800? And hows the latest firmware for you NAM users? Dont think it differs much to the Euro,or am i wrong?

i think its out for nav edition but nothing yet for my nam product code

edit: Ok I tried to use the NSU on PC suite (v. 7.1.40.1), but I got some kind of error. Do I need to install OVI suite to use NSU?

I tried OVI suite once before, and I had too many problems, so I just went back to PC Suite. I would rather just update the firmware over the phone, but I'm still not getting any updates available for my product code. Has anyone successfully updated using NSU on PC suite or has everyone switched to OVI suite?

-- Announcement --

For those of you who use (or would like to use) the Nokia SU-8W bt keyboard with your Nokia 5800 but have experienced (or heard about) lots of bugs and problems with this setup.....

...I'm proud to say that the recent v31 FW update has enabled FLAWLESS operation with the keyboard. No more random lockups and disconnections....it's actually not only USABLE but amazing to use now. I'm using the Nokia Wireless Keyboard App for S60v3.2....

VERY impressive.

Just picked up a trial of NetworkACC, a mobile network accelerator from eMobiStudio Inc (via SymbianGuru) and see a noticeable improvement in my screen draws both with Opera and the native web client. It's on sale for 7.99 thru 12/31.

I understand that I can use Fring and Nimbuz to make and receive SIP calls, but there is a native SIP configuration under Settings->Connection->Admin. Settings. I tried to create a profile for my Gizmo5 account. However, the registration of the profile always fails. The device does try to contact the Registrar Server but comes back with "Registration failed" message. Has anyone succeeded in using Gizmo5 account in Nokia native SIP setting? What is the Realm setting? I also downloaded the "SIP VoIP Release 3.x Settings Application" and installed it on my 5800. However, no Net Setting icon shows up in the Settings menu after a successful installation. Thanks.

how about you give an example phone to look at. i'm not going to go research EVERY single smartphone that has ever been produced. put up the results, i wanna know.

I appologize for misunderstanding what you said. However, I completely disagree with you. You stated that "While the Nokia ones look like this:" and then showed the pictures of the white headphones. I disagree with what you said because I don't believe they look anything remotely close to what Nokia provides. While you never specificially said that those exact headphones were included with the Nokia 5800, you never said that they weren't either. By saying they look like the ones Nokia provides, it's reasonable to expect the Nokia provided ones to be close in appearance, which they aren't (although they might be a similar type of earphone).

But what you posted had been discussed plenty on the forum before, why not run a search before posting something that has already been posted 20 times?

Helps weed out the crap.

If somebody mentions it again in 20 pages should we give them a cookie?
