Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

I've been using this phone for a day now and I think I'm gonna go back to my E71. Screen is gorgeous, I just can't get used to typing on the screen. I hate how when u use the full qwerty u can only see a small area of typing. Also I've gotten so fast at typing with the E71 because of the auto completion. And honestly I can browse faster on my E71 using the 4, 6, 8, 2 keys on opera mini (maybe if it had kinetic scrolling I'd enjoy it better). Either way, I think I'll give it a few more days, but the E71 is my holy grail, the phone I compare all others to.

I don't have the server profile, but I did get it from here on HoFo. It's either in that thread i listed or this one. IIRC, the NAM 5800 did not come with OTA out of the box and someone posted the settings, which i put in and updated to v21 or something...yeah, it was that long ago that i put them in. So it's definately early on in the 5800 threads.

Searching for the profile on my 5800 now yields "no profile"..wtf. Check for updates and it actually does contact Nokia and comes up with "no updates" since i'm on v40 already. :befuddled

edit: looks like someone else also found the new NAM firmware, my device update screen has the same exact listings

I upgrade to v40 on my 5800 NAV edition. The upgrade went ok. Now the full screen keyboard is not even an option. I only have 3 options for input, Handwriting, Alphanumeric and mini Qwerty.

Anyone having the same problem? Is there a config to activate the full screen keyboard?

Thx

Thanks.

My 5800XM only lasts 1day and a half and i have to charge it again.. is my battery defective or the XM just cant last this long under lite usage?

Agreed, I can't see any reason why we should have to change the product code. I bought an unlocked, unbranded Nokia phone expecting Nokia to support it. If they weren't releasing any firmware for this phone that's one thing. But when you're going on over two months and most everyone else has the update...

Also when i'm typing something long with multiple paragraphs i type some, then hit the ok checkmark, then scroll up where you want and simply click anywhere in the text. It will allow you to type exactly there.

Or when you're back in the keyboard screen you can click anywhere or even drag your finger up and it will scroll anywhere you need. But this way doesn't let you see as much text so i usually hit ok and scroll in the main text window.

Yes it sounds more like rattling or crackling then distortion really. And it really sucks to the point where i'm not sure how anyone could live with it.

But i AM handling the typing fairly well. Funny that was my number one worry.

oh yeah maps, if your having problem using the vertual keyboard than dont worry. you'll get used it in a couple of days. the key is to use your finger tips not the finger print area haha if that makes sense.

Open the back, remove the battery, SIM and MicroSD memory card.

Replace the battery only, plug it into the charger, wait a minute and tell us what happens?

* Install the .sis file, and when the email setup screen appears, stop there
* From your PC, go to https://email.nokia.com
* If you already have a Nokia Messaging account
1. Select "Log in"
2. Enter your primary email address and password
3. Select "Install now"
4. Enter your phone number, select any device, then select "Next"
* Wait for the SMS to arrive on your device.
* Select "Start", enter your password, and log in

How long does the SMS take? Its been a while w/ nothing.

So far i had this phone for a week and let me tell you its a let down. Slow CPU and Resistive Screen= The worst combo. I am now gonna sell it.. I don't know how some people put up with it since it came out....
