Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

Find the nest and kill the queen!

...not speaking metaphorically though.... find the app or setting thats doing it. It aint doing it on its own... :)

make sure wifi scanning is off

The same problem hit me today...it was fine yesterday after I upgraded my FW. Though my shortcuts had stopped working, the Contacts and Dialpad touch buttons were working fine, as well as all three of the Hard Buttons.

Today, none of the home touch screen hotspots were working, as well as the Connect and Disconnect hard buttons.

Factory Reset didn't have any effect on the problem. I did notice, though, that the hard keys worked in applications, just not on the home screen, so I figured that a hard reset might work after all, since it's activated before the home screen comes up.

Ran a hard reset, which fixed the button problem but lost all my recent contacts (as expected). Since I'd backed up for the FW upgrade yesterday, I just restored the backup and have all my recent calls, etc. back, up to yesterday.

Also, if you have HandiTaskManager (which I highly recommend - have used it for three years now), you could access your log thru that program, since it's invoked by the center button, but I never did find another way to access the call log without it.

UPDATE: the damn thing just froze up completely...

yea i just checked as well. didn't have any updates.

do you happen to have the settings you used for the server profile? maybe yours is different from what i have?

Could you check on something for me?

Check what style your text message icons are.... When there is an unread text it's an envelope and when it's been read, it changes to an OPEN envelope??

OR

Is it a regular envelope with a RED DOT when UNREAD and just a regular envelope with NO DOT after it's been read?

Thanks!

I'll probably get called stupid, but I don't really like kinetic scrolling anyway. I have better luck with a scrollbar and regular touch dragging. I either overshoot or the scrolling stops long before I make it to the other end of the list/webpage/whatever and I have to flick three or four times.

It does look neat, I just don't find it very usable. I must be getting stodgy.

Question guys about my 5800:

I have a Nokia 5800, and I was wondering if when you slide the lock on the side down, is the screen supposed to unlock instantly?

I find myself sliding it back up, and then down again slightly harder, sometimes maybe like 5 tries, until it unlocks, or to lock it.

Is there something wrong with the switch?

If it is malfunctioning, I send it to Nokia, right?
Would it take long?

Hey everyone. I just bought a Nokia 5800 off of Kijiji (like a local ebay) or at least I think I did. Nothing seems right with it and I am beginning to think it may be a clone or something. Any suggestions as to how I might find out if it is legit or not?

I'm more than OK with getting both read and unread headers as long as I can specify that only 50 headers or the last 7 days or something like that are downloaded. About leaving all headers you mean it doesn't automatically remove them from the list after those 7 days? How about if on gmail.com, you archive or delete messages? Do the headers disappear from the phone? Cause that could be a workaround I'd be willing to live with.

I totally did miss that. Sorry. Does the Gmail app receive messages instantly? Does it notify you? Even if those 2 are Yes, nothing would be integrated like the built-in client, like clicking on an e-mail link on a page or something that automatically links to this client. As much as I can, I try to rely on native apps and avoid third party ones. Not to mention this Gmail app allows access to just 1 account when I mentioned I need IMAP IDLE on multiple and not just Gmail (some Gmail, some AOL, specifically). This all goes back to the native e-mail client and that's where my questions remain.

Thank you.
