Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

Just got this phone. Can anyone recommend a case for it that is like the snap together shell Agent 18 Ecoshield case for the Iphone 3G? Also, where can I purchase screen protectors for the phone? I want the static screen protector, which does not require soap and water to apply. Thanks!

btw, has anyone found a way to speed up the notification light? when it blinks for new messages/calls it only blinks every 10-15 seconds. I have lightsignalplus, but that looks up the other three keys which i dont like. Im looking for a program that only speeds up the white middle key.

I don't have the USB cable with me right now to connect & check the product code on my phone using JAF or NSS. How can I see the product code on the phone itself? Don't tell me to look under the battery because that has the original NAM code.

FWIW, my old euro 5800 was a much nicer firmware at v20 than my current nam firmware v20....

i'm sure that firmware development HAS to be a lot of beta usage and the subsequent bug reporting by users.....and i think that there are simply more people using the euro phones which makes the euro firmwares better. that's how I imagine it, at least. (i always imagine a fw development crew in Finland of about a hundred people....then i imagine a crew of 3 in dallas, tx doing work on the nam fw....lol)

You answered your own question actually. v.31 is the latest firmware in which you can just simply install HelloOx and associated content to hack your 5800. Later v40/50 firmwares are still hackable, just not by using HelloOx

Thanks, I later found Navifirm software and indeed 31.0.xxx firmware was never available for NAM variants, only 31.2.xxx

And for v40/v50 and still being hackable, do you mean custom firmware? If yes, do you have a link to a good v50 version for a generic NAM variant (product code 0574994 NA BLACK)?

You can control how many are synced at a time. But you can't say only new ones, and you can't ever delete headers. That quickly becomes annoying to deal with.

You may not have noticed in my last 2 sentences I mentioned the gmail APP which can be downloaded from google's mobile site.

It works well and provides pretty much all the features, low RAM consumption, can leave it running all day.

Hmm haven't had that problem or anything. Signal is great.

I do have this gripe that i've been experiencing lately. When someone hangs up, i get the connection error and it starts beeping. That thing is annoying. It does not do it when o hang up though

Is there any way, native or third party,to blacklist a certain SMS/MMS senders? There are plenty of programs for blacklisting voice callers but none so far that I was able to configure to work with messages. If anybody can help pls advice. Thanks

I had the WLAN Scanning on every 10 minutes. Now I turned it off. Does it mean I have to manually connect to Wi-fi networks everytime I want to use them instead of the 3g network?

I'm trying to see whether I can connect to Wi-Fi most of the times automatically.

anyone get this problem i have with opera mini? when i try to enter usernames/pw for a forum, sometimes it won't let me. i would only be able to enter the first letter. i'd have to switch to t9, enter the second, then switch back to qwerty. or sometimes it just doesn't work at all. pissed me off so much i'm using opera mobile. but that thing is such a memory hog

Just got the phone and went through this mega-thread. One issue I hadn't noticed skimming through was the issue of music playback while using nokia maps drive navigation. If I have music playing through the default player, then try to use drive navigation, music playback becomes choppy/laggy. I'm running the latest firmware on my phone, and my gf's carrier branded v31 5800 does the same thing. Anyone else experience this, and hopefully have a solution?
