Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

What is the latest firmware for RM-428 NAM that is hackable with HelloOX ?
On HellOX website the latest hackable firmware is 31.0.101, but I can't find references of this firmware for NAM phones. Is 31.2.101 the NAM version of 31.0.101 (maybe 31.0.101 is for Euro variants), meaning 31.2.101 is still hackable ?
Thanks.

uh yes you can. just touch it where you want it and fix it from there. i do it all the time. just sometimes it highlights the whole thing so you gotta use the 2 arrows on the right side or click on it again with your finger. in the space you need to be very precise versus everywhere else.

Where is that listed?

I looked at the specs on Nokia's site and all it says is Carl Ziess optics. Traditionally with cameras the focal length is specified first (28mm f2.8, 50mm f1.8, etc.). And increasing the focal length would not only require the sensor to be larger, it would also require it to be further away, increasing the thickness of the camera module, which seems like a lot of re-engineering for a model refresh. It's more likely that the 2.8 is in fact the focal length, but I welcome correction if there is an official source listing the specs. I looked, but I couldn't find anything.

However, I did find something else interesting, a declaration of conformity dated July 1st, 2009 for a Nokia 5800i RM-602 (note the "i"). Let the rumors and speculation begin!

I don't think anyone is really whining, at least I'm not. I think many on here are just trying to understand why Nokia does things the way they do. Yes anyone can change their product code, but "should we have to" is the question. If the hardware is the same for the Nav and the XM, then there is no technical reason that the upgrade can't be available for both. I wonder has anyone ever gotten an answer directly from Nokia about these kinds of issues. Just curious.

By the way, I'm satisfied with v31 for now.

geez, makes me feel crazy that i sold my 8900 and my 9000 to get the 5800. But still, i dont regret my decision, im loving the phone! :p

@maps
sorry your not enjoying the phone man. I found out after a day which parts need double tapping so im breezing through menus. But yeah man, i hope you enjoy the phone, its really a nice phone once you get past the kinks.

on my last 6 phones i've used
N95-4, E71-2, iPhone 3G, Bold, Javelin, 5800

the order would probably be
N95

You're missing it. Lets say you are replying to a message. Click the area which brings up the key pad. When done you don't even have to press the check button at the top, just press the green send button at the bottom of the phone and it sends the message. You don't even have to leave the key pad area. This is super useful.

And if not replying, you select the contact first, then type your message such that you can just use the green call button to send. Try it out.

New owner here. NAM unit, FW V 20.2.014.
Battery is 1320 mAh.

The first thing I did was slap Handy Calendar on it. I'd love the Enterprise theme from Tekh7 but it's not available. I got it through a trade on HoFo for my N95 8GB.

ok I am becoming a bit irritated, my 5800 keeps connecting to wifi when I do not want it to, i have removed the ovi share thing, I have removed any emails and it still connects to wifi for some reason, I keep disconnecting it nonstop and it keeps reconnecting, how do prevent this from happening?

I guess I need to see why my ovi maps takes a long time to position lock, I dont have a data plan, but it seems that the gps takes 10min+ to put a lock on. running latest fw , but I need to change raise the volume of the turn by turn to hear it, though it seems a bit off on some address

You can change your product code, that's what I did when I updated to the latest N86 fw. I changed it to another American product for which the update was available.

Cool. Thanks guys. I am debating if I should pick a 5800 up, its a great price with that Dell discount. Just hoping to not be disappointed. I saw the phone at the NYC store, but only played with it for a few mins (tons of people). Just not sure. Dont want to make a mistake.
