Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

Can anyone confirm for me:

1) The current firmware version of the 5800 NAM
2) If OTA works on the NAM or if I'd have to use NSU to get the server profiles
3) If 5800 NAM can be flashed to use EU firmware
4) Any potential downsides of doing so

Got one on the way and I just want to get my head around the situation - as an N95-3 owner, I've been completely screwed on firmware and I'd like to avoid this happening again.

I'm not saying they won't support this phone, just not as well/much. Yea this doesn't have everything that the n97 has software wise, but it doesn't have the same hardware either. I'm sure they are going to fix problems on this phone and may or may not add stuff. Keep in mind that this is the nam version. We always get the worst support to begin with.

On the camera, you apparently don't know much about it. The megapixel size does not matter, it's the sensor used that does. The lense is not going to help if the sensor sucks. Btw, pictures in broad daylight looks fine.

I did the three finger format hard reset right after I downloaded the most recent firmware update, 40.2.005 via NSU yesterday. I didn't like the idea of doing it; but it seems to have solved some of the buggy probems I was having with Operamini 5. More importantly, I knew deep down that if I wanted to get the full benefit of the firmware upgrade, I should do the three finger format hard reset. Lots more system memory and snappier OS and web browsing.

An update on my 5800 random shutdown problem, in case anyone else has the same experience:

I finally figured out that the battery was momentarily not making sufficient contact. The reason I figured it out was because it usually happened when I was running at the gym. The simple fix was to pull it out and put a folded piece of paper behind it to force the battery into good contact. I ran about five miles tonight and it didn't shutdown once. I'm glad that's solved because I really didn't want to send it back because everything else has been working great.
Oh, and if you think that's a mickey mouse fix, check out Crackberry. Lot's of people there have done similar things with their Storms and other BB's.

I dunno how.I have it on my desktop ready to go.I can either email it to you or tell me how to post it here. When I click on "insert image"Button it says Enter the text to be formatted.

looks like i won't be buying your phone anymore isaac, not because of the price. but because i figured out how to unbrick this e71-2 that i have here (traded my spare router for it). so i'll either be giving her my 5800 or the e71

Just to update about my 5800's shutdown issue: I deleted the only app that I had installed and it hasn't shutdown at all today. I'm hoping that was the problem, or that it was just a couple of hiccups. I'm going to continue using it this weekend without doing a hard reset and hope that my problem is solved.

Hey I really appreciate the pics. I'm a bit frustrated with Nokia at the moment. The N85 is simply not build well IMO (I've had 3 now. No more). The E71 is nice, but the screen is too small. I'm about ready to try the 5800 as the screen size is really becoming more important to me. Hopefully Joikuspot will work with it.

For the very few times I ever need to dial with letters, it was worth buying the app for. Still have yet to use it, but the day I need it, I'd be cursing myself if I could figure out how to spell out 1-800-FLOWERS.

So in FW v.50, the browser has kinetic scrolling just like any other menu list. It also automatically goes full screen and displays the data counter progress bar in landscape and portrait modes. At boot i had 57 MB of ram after I closed all in Handy Taskmaager. Two posiives so far. :clapping:

i think that's what he meant. my university uses that same username/password login thing. you just open up the web browser and choose the school's AP to connect. it should redirect you to a page where you enter to required info, and then the page will redirect to the browser's homepage.

it works on my 5800 and n97 with no problems.

so I changed my product code with NSS. that was easy. now I can't get the new version on my device. After a couple tries, NSU says there is a new version, and then it always tells me, "Update startup failed" and Failed to connect to internet more than three times.. I've removed all my antivirus software and have no firewalls. How can this thing be blocked from the internet!?!?!?!? I'm ready to ditch nokia just because of their terrible desktop software.. unless anyone knows a solution here?

OK..I tap on the new nokia maps after v31.2.101 update....then it says it is a premium service. I thought I got a free nav update--I lose..
