Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

Correct me if I am wrong, but RemindMe only does notifications for missed events, so if I have a missed call, or an email that I have not read, it will notify me and I can set the sound of that missed event notification.
I am however referring to the email alert that the phone plays when a new email comes in for the first time. It uses the email tone set in the Profile, but I dont see a volume control. The only volume control on the profile is for incoming calls, and I have that set close to loud, but the side effect is that my new email notifications end up being pretty loud as well, and I dont want it that loud.

mms messages are sent to the recipient via data.
as long as you have mms included in your plan you should not be charged for additional data.

The callers told me that it was going straight to voicemail, just like when a phone's turned off. I haven't done the hard reset yet. Hopefully this weekend when I have more time. So far today it's stayed on (I've been checking it regularly) so maybe it was just a gremlin? :D

I got those feed links using the instruction (likely that's what you found online) before FB made the change a few weeks ago for stupid privacy things . Now using those instruction will not give you a working RSS feed link, however, all previous feed links are still working if you have some before.
The only FB feeds you can still get are your own status feed and notification feed.

Day 2 - The phone collects alot of dust which somewhat worries me....

I am really liking how intuitive the UI is for accessing things. Want to change the time/alarm, click on it. Want to turn bluetooth on/off click in the upper right region. Want to read a new email, or txt, click on the little envelope notification. I LOVE that....

Web browsing with the stylus is great. My one question which no one answered was the speakers are not very loud, my n95 is considerably louder...I thought the 5800 was supposed to be EXTREMELY loud. I think I may have soft speakers?

Well I had to format the MC but now I'm having a different problem, all the apps try to connect to the internet using the providers data access point even though I'm already connected through a wireless network. I went to settings > connectivy>destinations and set WIFI's priority to 1 but it doesn't seem to do anything :S

a few issues and general questions :)

question:
so I can't figure out how to work the Navi. I found a way to navigate to a specific destination, but the way I found requires coordinates, which to achieve, one way is to save the point I am trying to navigate to. Is there a way to use Nokia Navigation with only knowing the destination address?

issue:
Also I tried the GPS Data application. I turned on Trip Distance part of it, where it shows travel time, travel distance, average speed, top speed, etc.
I used it twice today and one time it showed top speed of 239.9km/h, which I have not reached or even come close to. I was around 180-190km/h according to my speedometer (122mph). The other time it showed something completely ridiculous - it was around 5900km/h. What is going on?

issue:
I have bluetooth in my car. It is a VW OEM unit. When my 5800XM pairs, it does not only pair but also activates the bluetooth unit, therefore turning off the radio for about 4 seconds and then the radio comes back on. If i try to use GPS on the phone, it activates bluetooth again for 5-10 seconds. I also noticed that audio and video is automatically transfered to the car through bluetooth if I listen/watch something while paired, which is cool, but at the same time annoying because I can't control the equalizer on the vehicle radio unit while bluetooth is activated.
My Sony Ericsson W810i did not used to do that. It only activated bluetooth in the vehicle while making or receiving calls. The SE does not have GPS, but unlike the Nokia, it did not activate the bluetooth unit while pairing either.
Is there any way to make the phone only use bluetooth for calling and nothing else?

question:
I saw Quake 3 Arena, Quake 2 and Quake 1 games (which I am a big fan of) for third generation S60 phones. As far as I know (and please correct me if I'm wrong), the 5800XM is fifth generation. I haven't been able to find any 5th Gen S60 specific apps.
Are there any? Or is this phone advanced enough to support any previous generation app?
I am new to Symbian, I honestly know nothing.

another question:
On the screen I can either have a shortcut bar or a contact bar. Is there any way to have a mix of the two?

Thanks.

does anyone have mail 4 exchange installed on their 5800 ? I am thinking about picking one up but I haven't read anything on how mfe works. Gotta have that for my work email.

Has anyone added rss feeds to this phone ? Ive tried the real player links...didnt work. Ive also added the link through notes> added to calendar to show on the homepage..It wont allow a one touch click. Bogus. I understand I could just go on the web..I was looking for the rss simplicity. Im sure I shoulda looked thru the n97 links before posting....thanks...Tom

LCD's typically don't have screen burn issues from what I understand.... CRT's and Plasma screens DO have that issue.... however, that feature doesn't even WORK on my 5800 (on while charging), so it doesn't even matter to me. :)

For those with the C6 firmware, is the advanced SIP settings (for internet calls) enabled? I'm seeing a bunch of different flavors of c6 custom firmware and some don't mention if advanced SIP is included as part of the package. I'm wondering if this has to be added by the modder for their custom firmware?

Yeah, I was surprised to see it available also. Kinetic scrolling and all.

Software version: V 40.2.005
Software version date: 31-12-09
Custom version: 40.2.005.C03.01
Language set: 17
Model: 5800 XpressMusic
Type: RM-428

I originally updated the V30 firmware using a different NAM product code. Then they took that down. I think Roger didn't believe me at that time, so maybe that specific product code has the update.

The Nokia site lists 3 different car chargers: DC-4; DC-6, and LVH-12. They all look similar. Are they all interchangeable, especially with respect to use with 5800XM?

Well in all fairness i think its the screen as well. Cause yesterday for example i had the browser open with the screen lit with smartlight for 6 hours straight. I am just used to the e71 i guess.

I used energy profiler and this phone actually idles at around 0.03w power which isn't too shabby. Also running wifi for browsing is more efficient than using 3g by a decent amount. Kinda counter intuitive.

Okay, now back to my original question: If I do a backup to memory card, then a hard reset, then a restore from memory card, (1) will I be missing anything? (2) will restoring from the memory card overwrite the "fresh" files that I've just installed by doing the hard reset?
