Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

no unfortunately that is not the case here,
When you open up the web browser and choose the school wifi it prompts an error message and that ends it. this is with the native browser of course. it seems to be an advanced security setting set up by the university for wi-fi

I just noticed that there is a line across the bottom of my 5800's screen. It's like a quarter inch from the bottom edge. So, when the option and back/exit buttons are displayed, you see a line across those two boxes. I don't remember seeing this before or maybe I just didn't notice it? Does anyone else have this?

Yea, but if it's asking for a WEP key, you would still need to enter that before logging in. The WEP key is the encryption key used for the exchange of wireless data. The username and password are something else entirely (system specific login).

You'd need to find out what the school uses as their wireless security encryption (WEP, WPA, WPA-PSK, etc.) and enter the appropriate key before you will be able to login with a username and password.

Guys, I apologize for the double (triple) posts. I wasn't trying to be funny or anything. I originally posted, then revised it and somehow wound up with 2 posts. And for some reason, I could not delete one of them. Everytime I deleted, it deleted both! :befuddled I even tried a bogus post with the hyphen marks, thinking if I deleted that, it would delete the preceding post with it. But no deal! So, yeah, that's the reason it looked like I went mental there for awhile.

I'm sorry to say that i have similiar issues with my phone as well. Oftentimes when i am receiving an incoming call or trying to dial out, i'll get a "connection error" dialogue box and the phone will drop my call. It's quite annoying and although it occured with my n82 as well, it was much less frequent. It may be a carrier issue with 3g/2g hopping as i am still using the original at&t with an mmode data plan. Overall however, i beleive my n82 to have had better reception. It is especially apparent in certain locations like elevators, where my n82 was fine but my 5800 loses reception.

You mean Love Lockdown :D love that song.. and yes this is a perfect example of speaker distortion incase anyone thinks they dont have it. Download that song and load it onto your 5800. Sounds as if the speakers are about to just pop with all the rattles and crackles.

The e71 and 5800 are completely different phones for completely different purposes and markets. A 5800 would never replace my email ninja skills on my e71. It will however, replace the music and video functions!

guys i have another question. when you received your brand new phone, was the box sealed with the genuine nokia sticker with the hologram? because my box flap was just partially open. no sticker. not even an old sticker that had been sliced open. it was just a regular nokia box with no type of seal whatsoever. is this normal to all the 5800's?

cause every other nokia i've ever purchased came with the box sealed. i'm wondering if i got a refurb product, or a used phone. though i checked the phone everywhere to look for marks or fingerprints and it looked brand new condition. weird huh?

I ordered the full body protector from Zagg because they were having a 50% off sale, even though the phone is plastic, not like an easily scratched ipod, I will probably use the screen protector first and use the body one only if I really feel like its worthwhile, because I do want to preserve it for resale if I lose interest in a few months.

Anyways, that said, there are snap cases on Amazon.com, the cheapest one is $3.50, and the more expensive ones are $20.

Hey, man....

Just an update on my v31 ... my 5800 is WAYYY more stable overall, I can run and close programs & open and close bluetooth connections for days with no problems. v21 tended to give me glitches with bluetooth and such ... at least after a few connects and reconnects. Also, my speaker output sound AWESOME. Lots of bass and plenty of sound.... no crackling that I've noticed at all. I also haven't had the issue where the call gets "stuck" on after hanging up. Everything has been wayyy better stability wise despite the fact that no extra features were "added". I'll take stability anyday, though. Oh, and the Web is noticeably faster.... and I wouldn't say it if it weren't true since v21 made my phone a step faster in this department, as well.

I recommend you take 10 mins and update.

the n85 and the n96 and n95 all loaded pages quicker, listen i have both and aside from the beautifuk screen and higher resolution there is no way the 5800 browser can compete with the nseries in terms of loading and maneuvering .

Thanks for the quick and succinct reply, one last question, is it possible to manually input the server profiles for the NAM and get OTA, or is it simply a matter of them not having OTA servers in the US?
