Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

Yeah, I really have no idea how some people claim the 5800 has better speakers than the N95. Sure, there is more bass, but it gets distorted at high volumes. I still feel the N95 is better for playing music through the speakers. Much more crisp. :befuddled

RogerPodacter,

I may be interested in trying NM again. Can you tell me more specifically why it blows the regular messaging away?

I don't mind the auto-retrieval of the built-in client, and push is not a necessity for me although it was nice to have when I had a blackberry. NM was so unreliable on my E63, that I just gave up on it. I also, don't like that it adds another icon that I have to account for instead of just integrating into the Messaging app. Tell me what you like about it. I would be using for just 1 gmail account, unless it handles exchange now because I do have a work email.

I finally loaded up my 5800 with mp3's and I notice while listening that there's nothing about the currently playing song on my home screen..... I know there's supposed to be something there! Is this similar to the calendar entries issue where I need to do a hard reset and hope it doesn't happen again for awhile?
Thanks..

Be noted: It's been said that this is a leak, not an official update, Nokia has stated that it's a illegal fw version.

I'm not sure if and when Nokia is planning to release v50 as an official update thou.

are you using the work around for SIP? because nokia removed the SIP profile from its newer phones like the 5800 and n97. but there was a manual work around that looked pretty involved.

i'm really wanting one, just as a phone/web tablet. it seems all i use my phone for anymore is calling, and browsing with opera mini, and google maps. that's it. so its tempting...cause of that screen.

I had the exact same thing happen to me when trying to install the 40.2.005 firmware for product code 0574994. The thin lines with different colors always happens when installing firmware on the Nokia 5800. It happens when there's only a few seconds left according to Nokia Software Updater and the phone is supposed to reboot in "Local Mode". And boom, that's when things fail.... I can tell you that my problems with the 0574994 firmware file was repeatable and using a manual firmware installation method also failed. I can also tell you that the this new 0577454 firmware worked fine for me.

If your phone is still in warranty, send it into to Nokia for servicing. If your phone isn't under warranty or if you aren't afraid of voiding your warranty, you can use the method that I mentioned earlier.

CLARIVUE is located in Washington state. I'am currently using thier screen protector on my 5800. It gets the job done. Two complaints have with there screen protector; clarity is not that great and it does not fit the entire screen.

The Slides when getting a Incoming Call only appear when you get a call whilest the keylock is On, thats why you dont see them everytime. :)
Havent had that Message issue.

I loaded up Google's GMail app on the 5800 XM, and my first thought was "man is this ugly!". It doesn't run full screen, and there are useless icons for keys on half the screen. Also, the app icon is low-res.

I looked into Google's support groups and found a simple solution for both issues. Now I've got full-screen GMail goodness on the 5800! Way better than Nokia's Messaging app!

i'm using 3.03, i don't have data so i used the ovi suite to install the lastest map and voice guidance, i can see the tts folder on my memory card, but it just won't show up on the map application

Doesn't search has to start indexing and thus making it a tad bit slower at first when installing a new OS which a fw basically is? Although I can't say I see any difference in search speed on mine. Although I am not really a heavy user of the search function.
