No Signal on Sat 82...except on TP 9

The last couple nights I've been having problems with getting signals on Sat. 82. At first I was sure the problem was weather as we were having storms so didn't think anything of it. But now, a good chunk of yesterday and all of today I'm not getting any signal and weather can no longer be blamed.

I've done a number of check switches and resets but to no avail. When testing the signal on the various tp's I don't get any signal on any tp for sat 82 except on tp 9. For sat 91 I get a strong signal for every transponder.

Any ideas on how to fix this would be appreciated? Is it the switch? The LNB? The 9200?

Thanks for any help.

Might not be related but interesting anyway.

***We will be performing maintenance on some of our transponders. Once the maintenance has been completed we will be returning the services to their original locations. Please note that the services highlighted in GREEN will be temporary, but no date has been set for their return to original settings. Please note that the bulletin to switch back may be provided with short notice; please keep this in mind when planning so that any services in GREEN can be easily reverted to their original configuration. We will let our affiliates know as soon as a date has been confirmed.***

Moving from T06 to T02 on 82

I did see that maintenance bulletin, and it was approx when the problems started, but I don't really see why it would be causing an issue.

I chatted with a Bell rep using the chat feature, and I ended up having to do a memory dump on my 6100. It worked fine after that.

I'm having problems with Sat 82 all day today. Started this morning and it's still out tonight. I called BEV but they were of no help. I don't think anything has gone suddenly wrong with my connections and/or cables. Funny how a lot of subscribers are having issues with Sat 82 lately.

I'll have to check everything in the morning but I'm wondering if anyone else is having no signal with Sat 82.

Memory dump didn't work. Infact now it is telling me that there is no 82 signal at all. Although I have tried a number of dumps and resets and check switches and occasionally 82 does show up but, with the original problem of only a signal on tp 9.

I swapped out the LNB for sat 82 with a spare I had, didn't make a difference...so is it the switch? IF there was a problem with the switch would it tell me in a check switch?

I'm having the same problem except on the 91 satellite. The signal strength is locked at 50. Screen cuts out frequently. It's been happening for a week now. I think it's finally time I switch to rogers. I'm fed up with bell.

do a check with only putting sat 82 into your reciever without the switch.if this is fine than u know its not the lmb.do not use the switch with this test.if this is all right i want u to go to test switch and test switch without the switch attached.u must do this 2 times to clear any memory of the switch.then rehook everything up as normal and perform check switch 2 more times .it should work this time.seams the recievers have to be cleared 2 times without a switch to clear its memory and reattached to switch and test switch 2 times to be readded proper, good luck.

Sounds like a dish alignment issue. Signal strength should be in the 70's at least. Depending on your location and the model signal strength is usually shown in the 90's on a relatively clear day.

It is also helpful to state which transponder you are viewing as each has a different power rating. Usually it is suggested to use TP#11 for initial verification.

I'm in Oakville and am having the same problem on sat 82. The signal is going in and out of lock and reaching only about 50% at times.
I also thought it was weather as it started at the beginning of the week with the rain. YTV East (551) is one of the worst so now I have a complaining 5 year old :(
I then thought it was trees as the leaves have come in so I trimmed a bit but it made no difference. Anyone else having a similar issue?

ryoung,

If it was working before and isn't now it is probably condensation in one of the connectors. I would redo all outside connectors.

If that is not any help it is probably the switch.

Russell57HDX,

Has nothing to do with your location in oakville.
Which dish do you have? If you have a 20" dish did you skew it?
You can also check your outside connectors. It is the usual suspect in low signal strengths.

Well at 11 it hovers around 50%. I use transponder 3 which fluctuates between 90 and 70%. The fluctuations actually make a nice melody when testing the signal :).

I had the satellite installed by bell, and was working fine till last week.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner.

I tried different LNB's and a different switch as well as some cable connection combinations and multiple memory dumps and resets.

Turned out the skew on my dish was way off, ~9 degrees.

It's a mystery to me really. I added the 82 degree LNB to the existing dish on our house 2 years ago and things have worked fine since then (I can't remember what dish adjustments, if any, I made at that time). Then we had that storm the other week, along with Bell TP shifting, and I lost 82 (on and off at first, then completely).

When I was checking things out I did check the dish alignment, sort of. I checked to see if it was still tightly in place and checked all the nuts to see if they were tight and if there was any evidence of movement, and there wasn't. As a last gasp I checked the dish alignment settings compared to the instal manual and found that the skew was way off. Things have worked since I straightened it out.

Thanks for the help and suggestions.
