Nickelodeon Acquires "Winx Club"; Will Co-Produce Seasons 5 and 6

Wow, Nick is sure raking in all these acquisition lately. I wonder what the reason behind all this? Kind of amazed that Winx is getting a season 5 and 6 from Nick.

I think you just mean action/adventure cartoons. And I agree. When Avatar: The Last Airbender first came out, I thought to myself, "Why doesn't Nick do this more often?" Say what you want about past Nick compared to current Nick, but there is one thing similar about them - prior to Avatar, they pretty much just focused on comedies and teen dramas and had no action/adventure staples. I'll say the acquisition of TMNT is another example of this, and also all of the shows they wanted based on DreamWorks movies besides Madagascar (Kung Fu Panda, Monsters vs. Aliens, and How to Train Your Dragon were all pretty action/adventure based)...

Way to go, Nick! It makes me glad to see that they're not going to just stop with Avatar.

Erm, we had the 4Kids version of Winx in the UK, not the rai-eng one. :(

Other than that, its nice to know that season 4 will finally be shown here, and maybe the movies too? That would certainly make my day if they did! :)

The only thing that bothers me is will Nick treat the show like 4Kids did and add all that slang words and stuff into the english versions?

I thought they just got the Tv rights for 1-3 and are co-producing s5-6. I've read nothing of them buying it up like they did with TMNT (seeing as this deal doesnt seem to affect Italy from what Ive read.)

A little off-topic, but...

How much does anyone wanna bet that when MegaMind hits theaters this November, Nick will ask DreamWorks for a series about it? It seems pretty action-based, it does have superheroes and supervillains...

It might have been brought up in another thread, but if we do get an animated series from this film, it'll be my least watched show on Nick. I would probably tune in to some episodes of the Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon animated series, but MegaMind: The Series or whatever the show will be called won't be on my mind unless I watch an episode and become automatically hooked to it like what happened with me with watching Degrassi Seasons 8-9 before hopping onto the first 24 episodes of this season known as The Boiling Point.

Despicable Me has a better shot for an animated series than MegaMind.

Back on-topic, Winx Club has about six seasons in their native land correct?

There are currently 4 seasons with season 5 hitting Italy next year from what Ive read, most likely around september I would have thought.

Thats only your opinion many others disagree.

Actually that statement is completely false. Nicktoons Network now Nicktoons and Nickelodeon only cater kids up to 12.

Hell yeah! I was so hoping someone would save Winx Club but I didn't expect it to be Nick! TMNT, Power Rangers, New Avatar show, DBZ Kai, and Winx in less than a year? Wow Nick, I'm so proud of you. Can't wait to see the new season.

That's true. I believe that the second movie is going to be released in theaters there sometime around December. That makes me wonder if Nick will also air the first movie since from what I've read on other forums, there are a few significant events in that movie that viewers would probably need to see/know before watching season four.

It looks to me that Nick is aquiring a good action/Saturday block for the future. Thank goodness. I think it's a good move for them, hopefully soon Nick will return to a good variety of cartoons and live action on its channel rather than just iCarly and Spongebob. And I like how it's a girl-centric action cartoon. We barely get enough of those nowadays.

As far as Im aware the 2nd movie is being released in cinemas next month in Italy. Oct 22 I think.

The press release mentioned the movies so I do hope that Nick either airs them or releases them on DVD.

The only information that I could find about the release date for the second movie does say that the production team believes that it should be out around Christmas time, but that might have changed since then.

The idea of the movies being on DVD is a pretty good option if Nick doesn't air them. Actually, considering how much they've invested in Winx Club, I hope that Nick does release each season on DVD. I know that outside of Avatar and Spongebob, Nick's DVD releases leave something to be desired, but I'd still be happy with each season getting a DVD set, or even in single discs.

You know, Nickelodeon and the Nicktoons Network have been really dry of foreign acquisitions for years, primarily Nickelodeon with all the Spongebob overdose (8 times a day last time I checked).

That's awesome to hear. I was wondering when they'd air the series. I'm still kind of disappointed that they're just summarizing the first two seasons. I didn't think that they would do something like that for the third season too. I understand that they want to get to the most recent season, but it's a shame that they're rushing through the earlier seasons in order to do so. Hopefully, they'll still air the full seasons at some point after the fourth season starts as I believe they do have the rights to the whole series. Still, at least we know when they'll start to air the series.
