Tigerfog's MNT Gaiden series does a great job of taking a plausible TMNT 2003 universe and including Shadow as a teenager. It takes place when the turtles are adults but it's pretty good evidence that such a story could work and work well. Of course Tigerfog himself says (despite having similar art style) that it's more tied to Mirage than 2003 TMNT.

But as another future gimic they could try having Shadow appear from the future in the current time line in 2007. They shouldn't base a series on that but a mini-arc could work.

Implausibility isn't the problem--given that Cody exists, we know that Casey and April will have at least one child, so why not Shadow? The problem is that the circunstances which brought about a teenaged Shadow in the comic books--an attempt to work something resembling a real-time chronology in a series with a then-sixteen-year-old history--are vastly different from the show's, which is "only" five years old, tries not to acknowledge the passage of time at all, and attempts to keep the protagonists as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Master Moron's suggestion is the simplest and most likely to work (and gets kudos from me for including Gabrielle), but would eliminate what I believe is a key element of the character, the fact that she was partly raised by the Turtles and Splinter, and thus grew up into the weirdness--you might as well use an established character like Angel if you want to introduce a teen Shadow to the turtles. CyberCubed's suggestion would be a decent, elegant compromise, and I would love to see small time gaps like that (I like the idea of long chunks of time where nothing exciting happens) but I really don't see it happening as a regular thing--not only would it mean constant redesigns for some characters (althought this may not be a problem for people who redesigned Baxter Stockman fourteen times), and the producers may think the audience would find such gaps hard to follow. Then again, if Legion of Super-Heroes could incorporate a time gap between seasons, perhaps its not impossible here.

Hell, it occurs to me that a combination of both ideas could work: Gabrielle leaves a four-year old Shadow with Casey, and we eventually see her grow through a series of small time gaps.

Yeah, I was thinking mostly of American cartoons, and Goku's family never actually crossed my mind. In any case, do we ever actually see the period around Gohan's birth? Don't they go from a childless Goku and ChiChi to suddenly having an infant Gohan? In any case, feel free to correct me, but I don't think such a thing is common in anime either.

And that shows the "intelligence" of the kids voting for #3.

Yep. I know they're just kids, but seriously, can't I joke about the way the post is worded in comparison with how bad #3 is? :p

For god sakes, #5 has the second best chance of winning since its right behind #3 in votes.

Just keep voting for #5 over and over by refreshing the page, if #3 wins the new season will have THE most embarrassing theme song ever.

Please keep rap away from TMNT, I beg of you.

I'm actually glad this happened. I'd like to see the series continue and get back to its roots. It wont be all the way like the 2K3 series, but IMO it'll probably be close enough that it shouldnt be too big of an issue.

I've always seen Fast Forward as the "Garlic Jr. Saga" of New TMNT. I think thats a good analogy at this point - a full on seasons worth of filler episodes that everybody pretty much tolerates until we get back to the meat of the stuff. My guess is that by streamlining the Turtles, they probably mean something similar to how the Batman/Superman designs changed when they were resurrected for Kids WB, quite frankly - I think it can work.

The problem with the FF designs is that they were streamlined to the point of feeling odd, plus the addition of those colored chestplates and it just felt weird and gimmicky. BTAS showed that extreme streamlining could be done. It may not have the most desirable effects but i dont think anyone will have to worry about it looking worse than the overly bright and oftentimes gaudy Fast Forward or degenerating into a bad flash cartoon or - even worse - degenerating into the dregs of limited animation that we often got from the later seasons of Old CBS/Syndicated TMNT.

If anything a return to norm will hopefully mean darker colors, or if not, perhaps a more muted palette similar to how BTAS adopted its own "red sky" treatment. (Again, I stress how much I didnt really like the "unnecessarily bright and vibrant happy" that exuded much of Fast Forward's color schematic. For characters that are supposed to be ninjas they sure galavanted around in daylight a lot - and that dissapointed me considering the first five seasons got it right.

As far as content goes: Thank gawd we didnt get Toddler turtles or Baby Turtles. With the Foot involved then that means we're probably guaranteed to get a few loose ends tied up though most were fully dealt with in the "lost season". I'm wondering how much influence the movie and a possible sequel will effect the new season. Laird doesn't seem to want to go the Shredder route, and he doesn't wanna go the Krang route or the Archie either due to the nixing of ultimate, so its only a few distinct places the series can go from here. I'm interested in seeing how they handle it, but at least we won't get any hokey FF type things I think. I figure this season will most likely intertwine the last dangling plotlines of FF with 2K3. Perhaps the Dark Turtles go back to the past with the current ones? No idea what'll happen but I'm glad to see the series continuing all the same. There aren't many good cartoons on the air anymore.

Yeah I can't tell if that's really JCA/The Batman style or just a few modifications to the 2K3 design to tie it into the movie style a bit. It looks a LOT like the comic book version of the movie style. I'm eager to see what April and Casey look like.

The pupils will take a moment to get used to but I think they're alright.

Actually this design heavily reminds me of the last style used for the "red sky" episodes of TMNT 1987 that ran in the mid-90s.

A new TMNT blog is up on 4kids with more Q&A's with one very intresting answer. Is this the name of the new show? (which is also a lryic from Song #5).

Holy shnikies! Probable spoilers ahead:

Fall08Utrom.jpg

Like the Foot drawing earlier, this is also concept art for an action figure. Still, given that we know Scottie Ray was asked back, chances that this won't appear in the show are somewhat slim. Personally, I hope Ch'rell's appearance ends up being the result of some cyber-shenanigans, and not the return of the actual physical Utrom--he's long since served his purpose--but if it does turn out to be the "real" Utrom, at least it looks like he won't be the Shredder--plus, this looks pretty cool.

ETA: The source, as always, is The 5th Turtle.

Firstly, I really should give up the ghost and just watch these reruns, instead of waiting forever to get the DVD...

Secondly, I'm sure that, even if she is dead, there's something that brings her back in the first episode. It's a cartoon. Logic gets thrown out the window.

For a quick second there I thought that was Krang...lol....I was hoping that Krang would finally make a appearance in the series once and for all as the true dictator of the Utrom world over Ch'rell.
