New Spiderman is half oppressed minority, half illegal alien

At the very least when the next issue drops in the fall. It might be a few issues later.

I agree with your sentiments here but it's not really the focus of what I, as well as other are finding wrong with this.

It's more of the way that they're marketing this. Marvel seems to be all about this new spiderman being a minority because o hey look, minority! instead of him being a character that people like.

If this was the angle they were going for, I really doubt they would have said anything more than "There's going to be some big surprises for the series coming."

The whole thing just stinks of calling attention to a specific part of the character just because it's different. Which seems to be something that a lot of people who belong to those groups hate. I find it difficult to find an appropriate comparison, but to me this whole media storm over it to me seems like a person who walks around with their black friend and introduces them to everyone as "Oh this is XXX, my black friend."

Once again, have you even read the backstory? This also by the way, takes place in an alternate marvel universe and not in the regular one in which apparently spiderman is still alive and white.

a new super hero wouldn't have the noteriety, fame or readership base that a popular pre-existing superhero like Spiderman would have. This is an easy way for them to jump into a market with a popular hero that cators more towarRAB minority readership.

They do alternate universe spin oRAB all of the time (like the zorabie universe one) This idea of mixing things up and taking characters down different paths in alternate universes is hardly something new and it doesn't interefere with the regular marvel story arch.

Having a non-white superhero is injecting PCness? they are simply using this character to appeal to a wider audience. It is a business move. Believe it or not white folk aren't the only ones who read comic books.

Comicbook characters tend to not stay dead. they'r kinda like dragonball z characters that way. here's what's going to happen:

1. this kid will be spiderman for a while
2. peter parker will come back (somehow)
3. peter parker will assume a new title, or
4. the kid will give up the spiderman title for peter parker, and take on a new name. Spider Lad. Negro Arachindo Amigo. whatever stupid name they come up with

killing heroes or their sidekicks is a stupid marketing ploy they use to increase sales of their comics. as far as making a profit goes, they only care about selling comics enough to break even. most profits for marvel come from merchandise or by slapping a picture of spiderman on a box of kelloggs cereal. black spiderman will sell enough comics to make sure they break even for a bit, and there'll be a new action figure for people to buy, and a new stupid fucking movie that people will go and see. at the end of the day people will want good old peter parker back, just like they wanted the good old blue and red suit back after seeing his black suit long enough. the industry has no soul.
