I just decided to sign up again with Bell!
I got one of the 9242 deals!
I want to know if I can reactivate some old receivers.
I have a 6000 a 3100 and a 2700!
Or should I just rent new equipment to get the 6141.

Thanks John

Yes, that 75$ installation fee really bugs me and is keeping me from upgrading a 3100 to a 6141.

I have three receivers a 9200, a 4100 and a 3100 and wanted to upgrade the 3100 to the 6141 HD box. I rent the 9200 and the 3100.

I have all the lines and gear that I need to hook up the 6141 but they insist on the $75 install fee although they said they could reduce it to $50.

On top of that I just moved and had Bell move the equipment for me, install is great, he hooks one receiver for me and everything is detailed on the workover, I get my new bill and BELL has charged me to install two additional receivers (2 x $50 = $100).

I got the bill about 10 days after the install, but they say it may take up to 6 weeks to get the $100 credited back.

I don't see why you couldn't activate the old equipment, but you might want a 6141 over the 6000. If you're renting anyway, 4100's are only $3.00 a month.

There is nothing stopping you from adding the other receivers onto your new account at all. It may be worth considering selling you old receivers to fund the purchase of a new 6141 though......

You should be able to swap out the 3100 with the 6141 using the same line ,if you already have HD, what switch do you have?

If you re-open your account with only your old receivers you will have to pay a 50$ "reactivation" charge and will get no new clients promo...

To get "new clients" promo your account has to be deactivated for more than 6 months. You would have to rent, or buy, a new receiver and sign a 2 years contract. The NEW RECEIVER will be INSTALLED FREE OF CHARGE, but they will charge you 50$/PER RECEIVER to INSTALL your EXISTING RECEIVER. There is no problem to add them to your new account. If your are separating from a girlfriend or wife an account was under her name she would have to call Bell TV to let give them permission to activate the receivers under your name, or else you will stuck with receivers that can not be activated

In my opinion the 9242 receiver is supposed to be a great machine, but in reality story is different. I'm on my third 9242 and only had my first in June, so 3 receivers in 2 months!!!

the best way is to wait you've got the 6141 deal & promotions. wait 30 days later & then log on to bell.ca 4 activating your 3 old IRDs.

Haystack, there is no issue with swapping the 3100 with the 6141, what is being talked about is the fact that if he goes from a 3100 Rental to a 6141 Rental, there would be a $75 installation Charge.

I would consider buying the 6141, then ship back the 3100 Rental.

Remember that apart from a few anomolys many months ago, all Rental Equipment has to be brought out and installed by an Installer, at least the initial installation anyway. Replacement receivers, are shipped directly to the Customer.

It may be worth calling Bell TV anyway, as technically, you will be Upgrading from the 3100 to the 6141 and you already have a Rental agreement in place.... Not sure but it might be possible for them to ship you the 6141 then you return the 3100, worth a try anyway i guess.

Haystack, I have all the gear other than the 6141 receiver, that's not my point, my point is they want $75 to unscrew the cable connection / unplug my 3100 and plug-in / screw in the cable connection on the new 6141. To answer your question I have the SW44 switch.

Unless I buy the 6141 myself, they want to send someone to my house to install the 6141 for a one minute job and charge me $75. With all of the HD push these days, I expected a much more reasonal approach. I'm not against install fees but I find this excessive for an existing cutomer that has all the required accessory equipment, just need to plug it in.

I didn't want to buy a 6141 receiver until I know the outcome on the recevier of the eventual MPEG 4 upgrade. If switching to MPEG 4 in a year or so will require a new receiver then I would rather rent the unit as they will have to upgrade it.

Joey, the 6141 IS an MPEG4 receiver, so getting one now, will future proof you.

When MPEG4 comes along, they should replace your Rental 9200 with a 9242.

The $50 charge reffered to by Ex Agent, is ONLY an installation charge, if you are doing it yourself, there is NO cost.

If you already have the Dish etc installed at the house, when getting the new 6141, INSIST on the installer running a brand new line for you. Then after he leaves, you can use all the existing lines for your old receivers.

Pinza, I talked to BELL once about the upgrade, and have not tried again and I didn't want to go on a rant with them. The only offer I got was a reduced charge of $50 instead of the $75

Just as you mentioned I asked them to mail me the 6141 and I'd mail them back the 3100.

I would have got the 6141 on the first install but I didn't have two HD TV's then nor did I intend to get a second HD TV in the near future. However things change and I now have two HD capable TV's.

I respect the service agreement I signed into and I'm not trying to downgrade my plan, infact they will get more money out of me and eventually they'll get the offered $50 install fee out of me too.

Thanks

It's not an INSTALLATION CHARGE i'm referring to...

I'm refferring to a REACTIVATION CHARGE, which is 50$. When an account is closed an client want to re-open it, no matter how long the account has been deactivated client will be charged a 50$ REACTIVATION FEE. The advantage is that client will have an active account and NO CONTRACT. He WON'T RECEIVE any "new clients" PROMO.

If he instead decides to open a NEW ACCOUNT, he would have to SIGN A CONTRACT, either 1 year or 2 years, and buy or rent at least 1 receiver. With a 1 YEAR contract you have to PAY THE INSTALLATION and you usually DON'T GET ANY PROMOS (discounts on price or programming/they currently give discounts on a year, but that's usually not the case). Whit a 2 YEARS contract the INSTALLATION is FREE for the new receiver (existing receivers you had are 50$ each) AND you get NEW CLIENTS PROMO. You can activate all existing receivers you have on the same day as the installation of your new receiver. It changes nothing for the promotion or the credits you are entitled to

Thanks for the updates.

The way they treat existing Customers is just so unfair.

If you were an existing customer with several SD reviever and you wanted to now rent an HD 6141, the installation and all equipment would be provided and installed free.

I note from your signature that you are French and therefore may make some gramatical errors, the errors you have made here are two fold. Firstly you were the one who brought up the "Re-Activation" charge, which was never even mentioned by the OP. Secondly you decided to chastise my reply by assuming I was refering to that charge, I was NOT.

Well the $50 charge for additional receiver INSTALLATION, is EXACTLY that, an INSTALLATION charge. This means, that if you do not have it installed by ExpressVu (Bell TV) you are NOT charged.

The Re-Activation charge is a seperate item, which I was not refering to, although I know that that charge used to be $35 and could be waived if the customer made enough noise.

So just to be clear;

if you "Re-Activate" your receivers, expect a charge from Bell TV.
If you have a New Installation, as a New customer, then add your own receivers, by running your own lines, there is NO charge......

Simple really.

Pinza thanks for the info on the 6141, being MPEG 4.

That clears things up for me to be able to buy one.

You are talking 2 different things here...

The 50$ re-activation fee is a charge that Express Vu charges when a client close is account and later on re-opens it.

The 35$ is a charge that Express Vu charges when a client opens an account using receiver he bought of an existing or ex client

He didn't, but he said:

Reason why I mentionned that re-activation charge

Wrong... If you reactivate THE CLOSED ACCOUNT, then expect a charge from Bell TV
If you re-activate the receivers on a new account, no problem, no extra charge

Ah yes the contract rental fee they try to disguise as an installation fee. ;) I agree with Pinza and purchased the 6141 about 8 months ago and after a few revisions everything seems to be OK. hope the get to the external drive soon.
