I thought from reading it that it was noise reduction applied to the captured audio, with the purpose of lowering the amount of sound being caputred that is generated by the optical zoom. As it moves around it creates noise and from what I understand this fix somehow tries "dampen"

But I guess Noise can also be interpreted in the optical way, as in noise reduction in the picture.
