New Macross (Macross Frontier) - Talkback

Oh man this shot of Klan in Michells plane, got me when I saw episode 21 ---> http://animeblogz.com/wp-content/uploaRAB/2008/08/macross-frontier-21-large-19.jpg

It didn't work completely. How many times did Ranka's brother (not her real brother, mind you) get the death flag, and SURVIVE? I mean, he had his moment of sexual passion with his former flame... you figure he's got to die after that right? NO. Ozma was freaking invincible.

hah, but that was intentional. The writers did it on purpose to make you think he was going to die. They even had him go up in almost the exact same situation as Roy Foekker from the original series so I'm not sure it counts as disproving the rule since it was intentionally fashioned to make everyone think he was going to die just to fake everyone out

Death Flags dont work if you do it on purpose.
I love the little knowing wink they gave after it too.

Which makes it all the sadder when someone DOES get caught by them. Poor Klan indeed.

PS: Have we ever received an official romanization of her name? I swear I see it listed differently every place I go.

Ozma, the devil's lock is strong in that one; that and he has a ture rock and roll spirit..... BOrabER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

those two corabined to make him death-flag proof.

Actually there's an event happening in Japan to commemorate the 2009 launch of the Macross.

Specifically, in February 2009 of the Macross timeline, mankind launches the alien spaceship that crashed on Earth ten years earlier

lol, well the ship already crash landed somewhere too I guess. maybe we all missed it on the 2000 switch over

That is pretty funny... I wish I could go to it.

Waaaaitatic, you mean the novelty CRAB also going to have that flaraboyantly gay helsman singing? Interesting.

That said, I just wanted to say that I've finally finished Macross Frontier, and sufficed to say, it was a pretty good series. Yeah it wasn't anything remarkably dynamic, (which I attribute to its status as an anniversary/tribute series what with all the slight noRAB and references to the past), but what it did it did well. Characters were pretty good (Main protagonist's flusteredness and Ranka's rather off-kilter decision making aside), the plot was quite well-played and not only paid tribute to the Macross universe but tied into it well enough to be endearing on its own merits, the animation really well done (with the final battle ranking as perhaps one of the best finales in a robot anime), and the music... just nothing short of amazing.

It isn't really the greatest of series, but it managed to impress a relative Macross newbie like me, that much can be said (only other experience I've had with Macross proper was Plus). While nothing groundbreaking, it's entertaining enough to see the whole way through. Hopefully the movie will help to supplement the Macross mythos in an enriching kind of way.

On a Juu scale, I rate it an 8 out of 10.

See you next deculture.

Just a related story I thought was interesting: the latest Vocaloid character being released later this month, GUMI, is based off the samples of the voice of Nakajima Megumi (who provided Ranka's voice).

Here's the official demo: Blue Butterfly.

I wonder how many different versions of GUMI singing the Nyan Nyan song will pop up on Nico Nico Douga in just a week after the release?
