New Macross (Macross Frontier) - Talkback

I wonder if a lot of it, has to do with the enormous music sales like Juu-kuchi said--> 3rd album to go up the charts to 2nd rank.
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2008-12-12/3rd-macross-frontier-album-sells-86450-to-rank-no.2 Macross may not be nearly as big as Gundam, but it does have ways it makes it's Yen.

I keep reading that people consider Megaroad-01 the SDF-2 Megaroad-01, even in the original Macross franchise (this from the Macross wiki with no Robotech pollution). Further, I read that after SDF-1 Macross, it was decided that having giant ships that transform was impractical, hence the new Megaroad-class ship. Clearly, that's not correct. Then again, the writers may be playing a bit loose with the established canon.

In my blog I question why the Zentradi didn't bother to do a proper planetary survey when they set up a base on this planet. Seriously, as you state, Zentradi military training isn't what it used to be.

Well, Lacus could certainly defeat the Zentradi.

*runs*

Seriously though, I'd say classic Macross is almost equal to first Gundam. If MSG is a 9 on a 10 scale, I'd say Macross would be an 8. Similar levels of scale and drama, though MSG wins for having the better war story as well as the various twists and turns in the plot.

Of course, since then, Gundam seems to have clearly gotten the better deal when it comes to sequels. Macross II was quite good (IMO) but isn't considered canon, and as near as I can tell opinion is split on Macross 7's quality. Maybe Frontier really will relaunch the whole thing, though my personal hope is that anything to come after will try to emulate the spirit of classic Macross and Macross II.

It'd probably be bigger if had the malleable quality Gundam has, where the initial features and titular robot could be twisted around in a lot of ways but still retain its iconic status. The Macross universe I believe does not have that ability, given the nature of its technology and so forth. I may be wrong in this regard, but if Macross wants to travel further beyond its universe it may have to be more malleable than it is right now. We've been fortunate that they did not smother this universe in our faces until we were blue and tired of it, but there's a time perhaps to end it. Maybe.

Other than that, Frontier is winding down for me and continues to be good, if not great. Just six more episodes for me to go until I give my final say on the series.

Now if you'll excuse me I going to listen to "Lion" for the umpteenth time.

Yea, I didn't want to get into it too much, but basically the Megaroad-01 started off life as SDF-2. It was being constructed on the moon during the war and then was completed afterwarRAB as an exploration vessel. The transformation functionality was removed and it was made into a colonization vessel. It's mainly referred to as Megaroad-01, although the somewhat unofficial longer name for it is SDF-2 Megaroad-01.

Although referring to it as Megaroad-01 makes the most sense and whenever I don't it's usually just a brain freeze.

I'm actually more of a fan of Macross then Gundam, so hey, great news.
Macross just seems more...positive in outlook, which I prefer.

That and saving the universe through the power of j-pop

haha, that is an evil thing to do(funny but...). I think You musta been on here too long. I wonder if older merabers stir the pot for some fun.

I will always dig Macross just a little more. Although it is a tough call.
I guess I am a sucker for the more emphasis on character/romace and music... mixed with mecha action.
Also, for the most part, it is not one powerful machine vs many, it is usually two large forces going at each other. (one inferior in size but having a trump card of propaganda in the way of a song/culture)

That is just my opinion. Like I said I am a fan of both, and Gundam, and all of it's timelines have devoured many more of my hours of watching than almost any other franchise.
I have as many books and models and CD's of both... it is hard to choose.

It's Macross, someones got to die.

Macross pilot tip: never talk about you family or future, you're just asking for it.

That works for Gundam too....actually, pretty much any anime that involves a war, if a main character talks about family or "people they have to return to" there's a 60 or so percent chance that they will die.

Stupid anime creators and their need to create drama.
