New Macross (Macross Frontier) - Talkback

And don't forget the other Nya-Nya (or whatever the name of that Chinese restaurant) waitress that's a future server back pain sufferer (she was only seen a bit in this version but was seen more in the first version that aired months ago; she's also seen in the intro). But she's not a major character.

And the green hair girl looks like a lot of girls look at her age (her voice sounRAB much older to me though).

Well, hellcat. Not every anime has to be serious. Macross Frontier doesn't seem to focused on being serious. Its kind of like watching a soap opera and waiting to see which of the two girls wins the guy. That's the story. I say the heavy influence of music fits right in along with periodic awesome robot fights.

I don't understand your point? What? Are animes not allow to use music this way? Its ok if you don't like the show but just becuase it doesn't fit your taste doesn't mean the show is poorly done or based on a poor concept.

And no, I don't see this as vastly different from other giant robot show. Its a large gerne and far more radical things have been done than adding a heavy focus on J-pop music.

Yea I'm wondering if Brera is related to Ranka and for some reason I keep forgetting. Lee is not Ranka's real last name. She just took Ozama's name.

She could even be Ranka Nome and Sheryl Nome is a red herring and Sheryl just adopted Nome as a stage name.

Of course she could still be descended from Mao even if her last name isn't Nome if Mao took the last name of whoever she ended up with.

Did Sheryl tell Alto she wasn't wearing panties?

Can they build the main cannons for the SDFs or do they still have to scavenge Supervisional fleet parts?

There are certain stories you consider above that sort of fanboy pandering. Up until I saw 7, I thought Macross was one of them. Frontier is even worse. "LOL Meltran Loli". I'm sure the fanboys are flooding into Akhiabara to buy the figurines, but that still doesn't make the enterprise any less distatesful.

The mecha looks awesome, but I gotta say, the humans look as generic as can be.

Not "Gundam SEED" style generic, just.....I dunno, boring.

Please don't turn this into some issue with me feeling every show has to be uber realistic. Especially not when half the time you just seem to make excuses for the creators of shows you personally like. It was supposed to be a nice friendly question from someone who was hoping to get into a series he'd heard alot of good reviews for. That's all.

Err, I'm sorry. Again. I ddin't realise that having reasons why I like a show counts as excusses.

I just can't think of a way to sell the show without the music since its as large as a draw to the anime as the Robot battles and soap oprea element. The singing is no different than magic.

Thoughts on ep 25 the final episode of Frontier
I've read lots of fighting on other forums mainly because the love triangle is unresolved and I can understand that and I also would have liked it to have been resolved. Although with a movie coming up I hope it would happen there then.

That being said there was so much going on in this final episode my brain was approaching overload close to a Gurren Lagann scale. There were so many epic moments.

Macross Quarter popping through and saving Battle Frontier out of a fold. Klan micronizing and piloting Michel's veritech!!!!
non-stop singing with non-stop action for long perioRAB of time
Friggin Daedalus attack SDF-1 STYLE!!! by the Quarter. I've replayed that scene like 30 times.
Alto saluting Sheryl (meh and Ranka) Hikaru style.
Seeing the SDF-1 on Earth

I loved it when we had the giant-size transformed Battle Frontier mecha clearing the way for the smaller Macross Quarter which cleared the way for the smaller Veritech unit of Alto which he then jumped out of in his flying armor. lol

It looked like one those russian dolls which smaller versions of it keep popping out of it.

I'm apparently not sensitive enough to these things to know a loli when I see one, but I'll take Beat's word for it. I haven't seen the episode, but I think Frontier deserves a little time even though I see where Beat is coming from. What it really comes down to is whether they eventually deliver a plot that recalls classic Macross, or whether its just a CG rendered blast-the-aliens festival that happens to be accompanied by good music.

I'd also say something about how it'd be great if they could make something as good as the Macross II movie again, but I'm trying to keep expectations realistic.

Well I think the ones on sale were a bit too large for her...

I'd assume after Macross 7 had its main cannon downsized into a rifle that they can, but much like the appearance of full size Zentran children, it's a mystery.

Agree with everything you said here, FlyByNite xD It was a ton of awesome.

It's also awesome to know that I can spot such an easy cliffhanger resolution. The part at the beginning where it showed how Alto escaped. I knew he got out first.

I'm not a big fan of the commercial aspect which is becoming more and more ruling in anime. Certainly not of "Here's a cute girl character who will become the next fictional idol!". The Nadesico movie shows perfectly what that can lead to.

Man Beat you're really hung up on this Loli thing, to which I really don't see, I mean she's a young teen, and the only thing I'd say was loli-like was her work uniform, other then that all we've seen her in is her school clothes and a nice sundress neither which I find to be very loli like.

Very cool series, and its thanks to this thread that pointed it out to me.

So, how much context am I missing from not ever having seen Zero or M7? I last saw Robotech about 10 years ago but I do remeraber enough about it to know who the characters were, like Minmay and Max and so on.

Well so far this looks like it could be a great series.

Maybe one of the character designers is a vocaloid fan.

O.K. Ranka doesn't look too incredibly like Hatsume Miku besides the green-haired loli thing; maybe it's just green haired lolis are popular right now.

And while we're on the subject.
