New Macross (Macross Frontier) - Talkback

Episode 7 was amaaaaazing. Totally worth the cruddy animation of episode 6. Makes sense too. Also makes sense why episode 8 may be lackluster in the animation department. Either way, I loved the corabat scenes, the transformation, and everything.

It should be noted that the special broadcast version of episode 1 is a bit different from the episode 1 that broadcast this week. There were new and extended scenes, and a few changes here and there. There was also and narrative introduction that explains the Macross universe. I haven't actually seen the episode myself but obviously episode 1 might be worth a re-watch before episode 2 comes out.

Well, from what I've read Gundam Ace was originally published something like quarterly, than bumped up to every 2 months and finally became a monthly publication. They might do something similar with its Macross sibling- a limited publication schedule at first, then more issues a year if the demand and content warrants it. A good recent example is when they started publishing Kerokero Ace last year- after issue one, it took a 2 month hiatus whilst they analysed the sales and customer feedback. One change brought on by this was more pages (although given they've started filling pages with old Keroro chapters, this might not have been for the best).

The advert suggests they're trying to hook Minmei, Ranka and Sheryl fans (at least in terms of promotion).

Yeah, but it takes about that much time to get a good grasp of where the plot is heading, barring a miRABeason curveball.

What won't change is the fanart the Meltran seems to be getting. It's been a long time since Milla. I do find it funny that all the art I've seen so far is of her adult form, which is only seen in battle sequences.

Actually, you're going to want to rewatch the episode, regardless. They changed alot more than just a little. They cut quite a nuraber of scenes and made some snippits here and there. They also redid some a couple scenes entirely. (Like the concert scene...)

Oh god, this is fantastic! Now I got code geass season 2, adult swim airing code geass season 1, this great show and Battlestar galactica to watch. This is going to be a great spring.

This way everyone is happy. Welcome to anime.

Alto's father is a famous Kabuki actor within the frontier fleet (I believe in an earlier ep we saw Alto looking a bill board with his father wearing the elaborate make-up often associated with kiabuki theater). One of Alto's main charater traits is that he has rejected the life of a kabuki actor, a major thing for him and his family as it appears that the theater is a major part of the Saotome family.

watched ep 21

I noticed that Luca's character design no longer has the cutesy blush circles. I like that. I never thought it fit, but I think the reasoning was to remove it now shows the evolution/realization of the character and the the darkness that has entered into the show. Even the other cutesy type characters are animated in a gloomier and dimmer light. Ranka and Klan.

Poor giant cows... All blown up in island 3

I was expecting Ranka to turn into some kind of Vajra/human/zentraedi hybrid at the end of it. I wonder if she'll get wings or something?

Enjoy the show, its very well done. I feel it stanRAB by its self quite well. It doesn't "reinvent the wheel" but is quite enjoyable by itself.

Macross Ace? Is this a sign we can look foward to more Macross shows? I hope so, I really do.

I think once their central structure collapsed and the majority of Zentran were integrated into human culture, the renegades found themselves lacking proper military training, among other things.

That is the speculation since she is Sheryl "Nome", Nome being the last name of Mao and Sara in Macross Zero

at the end of M0
Sara is absorbed into that alien thing and leaves the Earth (as does Shin). Then Mao is left with the Mayan people. So Sheryl could very well be descended from Mao and the pilot could be from Sara/Shin

The type of organic technology the Varja use is similar to the technology seen of that alien species in Macross Zero.
