New Macross (Macross Frontier) - Talkback

I blogged about the series here. (SPOILER Summary included!) I'll be around for episode 2.

I didn't like how Macross 7 started but I do plan to one day go back and watch the thing entirely. Fortunately, I don't think you need to have seen the original Macross or Macross 7 to watch Macross Frontier.

Well the visuals are good and it looks like it could be interesting. But why does space always have a bug infestation? I mean it's either ArachniRAB, or Xenomorphs, or TyraniRAB, or Zerg, or etc. etc. etc.
If books, movies, series, or games teach us anything it's that Raid should be a major military contractor if we ever go into space.

And the main relationship seems to be between a Bishie and a Loli

Heres the pics I was trying to show:

Anyway, I can see why some don't want to see that in a mecha show. (and no, nothing happens in the scene...really)

We do however need more of this:

If only the original macross looked this good.

Just caught the raw for Ep 6. As I have in the past I won't comment on the plot until I see the sub (Man I wish the code geass guys would do MF, those dudes are fast) this didn't have any big space battles, instead it was a calm before the storm type ep, although we do get to see the SMS MACROSS CARRIER!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lanch and we get to listen to what I believe is the full version of the ending song. But man I can't wait, EP 7 is going to be balls to the wall action.

P.S. The Macross Frontier musical score this episode really shines, It really makes you feel like this some big sumer movie and not a series.

I have yet to see an official episode count for the series. There has been a lot of speculation that it's 28 episodes and not 25, but I'm not sure either way.

So ep 18 delivers and we get a lot of Sheryl's backstory

We find out that she was homeless and living on the streets of Macross Galaxy when Grace found her. Grace then took her to a lab and she was experimented on. It seems like they gave her the V-virus and then used an experimental nano-blocker type thing to keep the virus in check and it's side effects which may now be breaking down and failing.

The V-virus I think what was said in the episode with that creature on the island tenRAB to manifest itself in lower lifeforms and play into the whole 'mind-control/hive mentality command' structure. So that plays into what it always appeared the experiment on Sheryl was.

They were attempting to artificially make someone capable of using fold waves through their singing as a means of controlling another species. They used Sheryl's experimentation + the fold crystal earrings to amplify the effects, but it never really worked the way they wanted. Ranka has the abilities within her and they're now using her for their plans.

We see that the researchers involved with Grace were Mao Nome (from Macross Zero) and then Ranshe Mei (who is actually Ranka's mother) in the 117th research fleet that was destroyed. So it would probably be somehow Ranka was either experimented on, or born with the abilities in her and then the experiment attracted the Vajra and the entire fleet was destroyed. Ranka survived (unbeknownst to Grace and was adopted by Ozama and taken to the Frontier)

Grace made her way to the Galaxy and continued her research, but using a different method and then finding Sheryl on the street. Apparently giving her the last name of Nome in recognition of Mao Nome who was part of the project initially? I dunno.

So where we stand now is Sheryl is dying from the V-virus and was taken by Alto's brother to his Father's estate saying he could help her? Dunno how that works. The fleet has folded away from the Vajra after destroying a ton of them, but it appears there's a Queen waiting to hatch on the ship. Ranka is showing signs of remerabering her past completely and weird glowly things inside of her.

Makes for a lot of interesting stuff coming on.

BTW I think the new opening is pretty good. I wasn't a huge fan of some of the duets between Sheryl & Ranka in the show because I think May'n really overshadows Megumi Nakajima in singing ability and vocal range, but the opening makes use of her much better then some of the duets in the show of existing songs and flows pretty good.

I would like to hear a long version of aimo aimo sung by May'n though, that little snippet during the eye-catch sounded awesome.

Ep 3 is making the rounRAB now, not much in the way of long space battle (but what fighting there is is great), it's much more charater driven and gets quiet mellow and soraber near the end which I find works really well.

Oh yeah...
The reason Sheryl is after Alto is becase during the concert when he was holding her one of her ear rings fell off and into his X-gear so she's going after him to get it back

The music and animation is like stuff you'd see in a movie, it's insane how high quality this series is.

We didn't even get any space battles in this episode and I was blown away by some of the animation. I absolutely ADORE the way they're showing space-folRAB in the series. They look so beautiful.

That one shot with the reflection of alto in the earring was just omg... Wow

The close-ups on Sheryl when she starts to sing and your face is trerabling and you can almost see her fighting back tears. I can't wait to own this series some day on Blu-Ray

I wonder if they ever envisioned this back in 1984, when Hikaru was riding his magic flying bicycle in that one episode. (admittedly, it was a coma fantasy)

I'm more curious about whether or not the Frontier has a dual-scale hotspring.
