need to put kill switch on my the sub for my computer speakers?

I already figured out that the switch would have to be between the actual speaker and the circut board, but I'm not sure if i should just use a simple on off switch or is there a special switch i should use since its audio. Also, does it matter which terminal(neg- or pos+) I put it on? I already tried just turning the bass all the way down on the computer, but that makes my mids sound like crap.
