Name A Remake Better Than Original?

Personally I prefer the original DOTD, an absolute classic, but that's not to say the remake's not good though. I really enjoyed it, but it's probably best thought of as a different film.

Someone mentioned The Ring. There have been quite a few remakes in different countries, but Hideo Nakata's original is far, far better than all the others put together.

Fortunately your opinion is in the minority. The original wee's over the 2004 remake from a great height.

George Romero practically invented the zombie genre, and his directing has a polish and charm about it that the remake sorely missed. The re-make although not a total disaster, has that cheesey american "teen-horror" acting that should have died after the Scream films.

Thankfully, the majority or people with any sense of style, class and movies cite the original as superior.

What do you mean by "better"? I respect your opinion of course, but can you back it up with something more to say about the movies? If it's just down to personal taste and nothing more then this thread is a bit meaningless.
I enjoyed DOTD remake, but it wasn't a patch on the original in terms of social commentary, plotting, humour, or imagination, and it didn't have any charm about it at all. Looking forward to Romero's new one!

Er, but as you say Zombies are fiction, so why are you now dictating that they are predators that run??

The game series "Resident Evil" demonstrate that slow zombies ARE truly terrifying, and there is something unnerving about the way they wail and moan, and whether they are dead or not. Of course the designers of Resident Evil pay great homage George Romero's "Dead" films.

Says your opinion.

Ha, have to laugh at this, it's just the kind of thing a typical movie snob would say. My taste in film is better than yours because I like the original classics and my opinion is final.

Riight. I like a movie because it entertains me, not because society says it's some big classic that neeRAB to be respected. Believe it or not, but The Godfather just might not be the best movie ever made.

And actually George Romero did not create zombies. He just took an old folklore/legend about zombies created by voodoo and used as slaves and put his own idea on it. Just like the remake put their running zombies into the picture, they're own personal vision.

Also, George Romero must have lost his old 'charm' because Land of the Dead was complete sh*te and his script for Resident Evil was rejected in favor of Paul Andersons god awful version. Ooops.

The Fly remake was better than the original. It was horrible but good if you know what I mean.

Haven't seen the remake of Dawn of the Dead so I'll reserve judgement on that one. I must admit I can't imagine running zombies though!

I really can't think of any others at the moment.
