Name A Remake Better Than Original?

Of course they will date, but that's in the future, if this thread or RAB for that matter in 20 years it will be a whole new set of remakes being discussed.

Don't get me wrong I loved the original Dawn of the Dead (although preferred Day of the Dead among Romero's quadrilogy, Land sucked), had it had a bigger budget it would stand up even better (as Day does) to more modern films, I prefer the Tom Savini remake of Night to the original, basically because it's in colour and the effects are better. I couldn't care less about social commentary (Shaun has a better social commentary than Dawn imho), it's a Zombie movie I want to see people being bitten, eaten, blood and guts :D .

What the remake had for me was the totality of it's nihilsm, you pity the ones that are alive, there's no hope, hordes of zombies are bad enough, hordes of quick, strong zombies are worse.

Anyway, I'm not bothered about Romero going another Dead film, I just want to see Max Brooks World War Z in the next couple of years.

I'll even hold judgement on Peter Jackson's remake of The Dambusters (one of my all time favourite films) and The Seed which is a remake of The Hidden another of my all time favourite films. Neither I should add need remaking, but if they do it well or add something to the originals I'm sure I'll enjoy them none the less.

Interesting that you like Day of the Dead. I think it's a really good film, slightly spoilt at the end by the far-fetched gruesome deaths. I feel the same way about the "director's cut" of Dawn - gets a bit unrealistic with the scene of the biker being gutted. I originally saw the "Zombies: Dawn of the Dead" Dario Argento mix at the cinema back in 1979.
You used to find Day of the Dead in the cheap bins of the DVD shops (I think I got it for

I agree. I thought it was a good film, but just not anywhere near as good as the original, mainly for the same reasons that BealtleGod has just said.

Red Dragon is never in a million years better than Manhunter.

I thought Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) was better than the original, though that is good as well.

The Dawn of the Dead remake is much scarier than the original, though the original is funnier.

The latest version versus the '30s version no, however there was also a remake in the '70's...

Is that really a remake? The newer version is so far removed from the 70's "musical version" that you can't really compare them...
