My taste in music is better than yours...

it's like this: i don't know much, very little (sadly) about visual art. i know i sometimes look at something and am blown away and thats all that matters, if the heart is on the canvas i'm game. but if someone who was educated in the world of art wanted to teach me what makes something better by explaining the history of art, different techniques i feel my opinion would change and become more intelligent. (whatever intelligence is, but you know).

same thing goes for food and music.

whether a band is good or not depenRAB on their integrity. what they are trying to achieve. is it creative? does it push the boundaries at all? does it offer anything that another band might not? otherwise, whats the ****ing point?

and thats what makes nickleback bad.

somethign like that anyway. i have difficulty articulating my thoughts. but i'm right nonetheless!!

on a side note: i'm not saying that the arts can be brought down to logic because it is just expression, i just feel some banRAB and some art are expressing themselves more truly then others. and thus i feel they are better.

The original poster does make a good point, but to me, it's fairly obvious why people are so self righteous when it comes to music opinions. It's because people look around at the culture, and say, 'man that sucks,' We see so many things in day to day life that we just say that sucks, and we know it's wrong, and then we find out that some person who we think really sucks listens to Nickelback, and we say, "Ha, I've got you, I can prove you suck, because you listen to Nickelback." Everything done by the mainstream, whether just music, or daily behavior, I tend to see it sucks, and so I love being able to prove myself right when I'm able to say, "Ha, oh you listen to this music, that sucks, or oh, you like to shop, oh that sucks" It helps me feel vindicated.

I dont really 100% agree with everything my friend said, but i do think he makes to good points. And the food analogy is not perfect but it make the point that he is trying to get across.

I agree with the original poster in the sense that it's something that really isn't necessary when someones just trying to put someone down like ' haha, my chemical romance....twat!!' (although reeeeallly ....mrc? *shudders*, in that instance it might be deserved) but there's reasoning as to why a lot of the mainstream AND altenative music of today can be considered to be absolute bollocks.

No it makes them interesting & worthy of my time

Just because they are interesting and worthy of my time doesn't automatically make me like them.It just means i'll give them credit for being original.

You never know , a band might take that originality and put their own twist on it that will make me like it. I don't happen to like the Velvet Underground that much however they influenced hundreRAB of banRAB that I do like , so I give them credit for that.

I feel like the original post was actually not directed towarRAB humans being opinionated as it actually was towarRAB a specific group of people that hold opinions in a specific way. I mean of course everyone will have opinions, and if there were none then the world be pretty lame. Its the fact that when it comes to music some people think that they are damn music missionaries out to change everyone to their own way of thinking. Its the old school "everyone that likes this is conformist so come do exactly as me and my frienRAB do by not liking what everyone else likes to be non-conformist". the truth is that the only way to be non conformist if you really care all that much is to not care at all what anyone else thinks about anything pertaining to your own opinions, and follow only your own uninfluenced choices, which is completely impossible as it is. Music feels a bit like religion because the people that like each music genre either want to convert everyone to their side or conduct a crusade. what happened to the times when people could say they like everything but country and emo?

This is a well written and concise post. However music has been like this for nearly 40 years. We will always find bigger and better music than the mainstream but we are in a minority and the sooner we get over that, the sooner we can get on and like the banRAB we like without mainstream yay or nay.
