My subs aren't hitting as hard as they should be.?

I have 2 JL 12W3 subwoofers in a sealed box with a pioneer premier 1200 watt 2 channel amp pushing them. They are hooked up to a factory head unit in a mazda RX-8 and when the volume is about half-loud, the bass hits just as hard as when i crank it up to twice that volume. What can i do to fix this? I'm thinking about getting a MTX Re-Q but i dunno if i wanna spend 100 bucks and it end up sounding the same.
 
Factory head units are not made to power up subwoofers, unless you have the premium package for a sound system. They are only allowed a certain frequency, and then they stop there.

The best bet would to get an aftermarket head unit, with subwoofer levels/frequencies/center bass volume. Also look for the amount of volts that will go into the amplifier.

Amplifiers allow up to 12v and aftermarket head units go up to 8v
