Thirteen-year-old Oscar nominee Abigail Breslin was anxious to get to lunch during a Canada media stopover for the film My Sister’s Keeper.

She’s approaching the end of a three month strict “no-clothes buying spending diet” imposed by her father. She is scheduled to have lunch at a mall and its only mid-June. The diet doesn’t end until July 1.

“Oh yes!” she assures. “He never said anything about shoes or jewelry or purses, he just said clothes. That’s a very limited arena.”

Breslin’s film, based on Jodi Picoult’s novel, looks at the damage caused by a mother’s obsessive fight to keep alive a daughter gravely ill with leukemia. Breslin plays the second daughter who was scientifically conceived and altered to be a source of body tissue and organ donations for her older sister’s procedures.

Breslin’s character decides she’s had enough, and sues her parents for medical emancipation.

“It teaches us a lot. What you have today you might not have tomorrow. It also shows that the whole family does love each other. It’s definitely a hard situation to be in to have to decide what to do. Every situation in the movie is hard and my character, she’s between her sister and her family and that is definitely hard, “ Breslin says.

“I see the mother’s point of view,” she continues. “That’s one of the things I liked about the movie. There are no real bad guys, everybody’s doing what they think is right and best and not trying to do anything bad.”

Breslin’s sunny face darkens ever so slightly. “People tell me they wept watching it. Well, I cried making it. It’s definitely a hard movie to watch but at the end of the day, it’s about a family who, even though they are disconnected, they still love each other.

“That’s really important. It makes you think, it taught me not to take anything for granted, especially health. It shows what a really horrible disease cancer is. And one day I want to be able to say it used to be but it’s not any more.”

There are some less heavy roles on Breslin’s horizon, including the animated features The Wild Bunch, Rango and Quantum Quest: A Cassini Space Odyssey, along with horror-comedy Zombieland.

The young actress is quick to change back to cheerier subjects.

“I definitely like acting, and I like fashion, I like clothes,” Breslin says. “And I’m double-jointed.”

With that, she bends her thumb right up against her wrist, then jumps up, turns her high-heeled feet in opposite directions and walks, one foot facing completely backwards.

I think he might be ok if he knows her hair has grown back and still growing, thats if Sofia intends to have long hair again

no, i haven't... i heard about the different endings so i'll either try and catch the book before or after... but yea, i like how alec described cameron's sense of the role... to play it so strong-willed versus a victim doesn't occur very offten in these sort of films so... i'm sure she did the role justice, especially since nick all directed it

Cool  You managed to cover the spoilery bits alright :D I'm so rubbish at giving instructions.

OMG, that line gets to me every time. I can so picture Kate saying it and what she would be doing at the time.

I know right? I  Abigail in the NCIS episode. She was really good in it. Can you remember how old she was at the time?

It was so sad in Little Miss Sunshine when she was talking to her grandad about that in the motel :(

Me too, I wasn't sure about Cameron Diaz as Sara but it looks like she's going to do a great job and I've got to give her credit for that especially after losing her dad during filming. It must have been really hard for her. They will all deserve recognition after this :D

I  your avatar BTW!

Me too, i have to wait till sometime next week to see what the showing times are going to be next Saturday, so i can decide and let my friends know what time to meet me there :D

Not many pre-movie reviews out right now from various sites yet

Me neither, I bet it was an emotional rollercoaster on set for them with all the hard stuff they had to film.

I remember seeing an interview with Cameron and she was saying how amazing Abigail was at crying on screen, and that she didn't want her to have to cry when she was off camera because she didn't want her to have to go to 'that place' to do it. Abigail is a professional though :D She still did.

My sister is really looking forward to it :D She saw the trailer the other day with me and is really excited even though she's not read the book. My sister-in-law still hasn't seen it yet.

I will definately have to take some tissues, I cried so much whilst reading the book, I can only imagine how bad I'll be watching the movie. I really want to know the ending though because I've heard it's changed, but it's under secret lock and key.

I can't wait to see everyone together for the premiere :D

I just wanted to see more of Jessie thoughts I just like something was missing with his character where I felt I knew the other characters better

I still haven't read the book but I plan on doing so. The trailer was just heartbreaking. It made me cry  so sad when "Life is Beautiful" starts playing. Can't wait to see it.

Ok cool :), what shall i call the thread title? what about 'Because she's going to shine in My Sister's Keeper'

Have you read the book?, its fantastic, hearbreaking still makes me cry to this day when i think about it and also watching the trailer again and again

I think Cameron is gonna be awesome - the way she comes across on the trailers, she will be great

Loads of people were crying when I went to see the movie. I think almost everyone was sniffling.

Was it really number 4? That's pretty good :D

Aww, your dad seems lovely :) - i bet he'll watch it and wont fall asleep, he'll get into the movie

Has he seen how she looks now, with short hair, i think its grown back nicely and she's done different hairstyles to her short hair which is nice to see on various MSK interviews
