My Sister's Keeper

I feel as if i have waited forever for this film to come to the cinema, big Jodi fan so was really excited. I sobbed my way through most of the film although i think anyone chicken hearted like me would do the same.

The real question for Jodi fans is did the film do the book justice? My answer would be no. I wasn't impressed with the changed ending (as the review said it was a bit hollywood) and i felt the film was rushed and the real issues with Anna were somewhat overlooked.

So when it comes down to it, i enjoyed the film and if i hadn't read the book i wouldn't have known any different.

It's true, they changed the ending quite drastically- I've made a thread about it.

However, I adore this book. I've been looking forward to seeing this since the trailer came out months ago.

I was a bit miffed at Cameron Diaz (no offence to the girl)- she's a good actress but I don't think she seems old enough? I also found it hard to imagine her in the role- it's just no very "her", IMO. But I've heard she does an amazing job of it- so I'm going in with an open mind.

Seeing it this Saturday :)

Cameron is about 36 yrs old, so if she had a kid at 19/20 - she could be a mother of a 16 yr old today

From what i have seen of Cameron in the trailers, she seems really good and also Abigail and Sofia suit Cameron

Oh that's not what I meant. I just personally pictured Sara to be in her 40s. Forgive me if her age is stated in the book and I'm wrong.

She does seem really good- I've seen the trailer and various clips of the movie and I was surprised. I really didn't want Abigail Breslin either, but from what I've seen of her she's handled it well :)

Saw this today - I thought it was amazing. I haven't read the book so I didn't have anything to compare it with, and I really enjoyed it. Fantastic cast.

Wow though - I'm not exaggerating when I say I sobbed the whole way through. I'm not the most quiet crier so it was actually quite embarrassing. :o

:) - no worries

i dont know whether i imagined Sara to be in her 40s or not, probably late 30s

I read this book sometime last year, so by then i did know who was in the movie, so whilst i was reading it, i pictured them as their characters so i think thats why its easier for me to accept her in the role of Sara, for me i could so see Abigail as Anna, she's the perfect Anna - i think Abigail's a amazing actress :)

I've just got in from seeing this. Really enjoyed it as I love Jodi's books. I'm normally a pretty cold hearted sod and don't usually cry at films, books or tv but OMG the tears were rolling down my cheeks! Thought the girl who played Kate was wonderful and the scenes with her and Taylor were very touching. Was a bit underwhelmed by Cameron Diaz but I guess that's the nature of Sara's character.

I'd love to see more of Jodi's books transformed into movies. I know The Pact is a movie but I'd love to see Handle With Care and Nineteen Minutes as films. She is such a good writer.
It's a shame the ending changed as the ending of the book definitely had more impact and I think is a shock twist no-one sees coming which Jodi is famous for but the film end worked well in the context if a little rushed.

Jeff Buckley: previously unreleased track featured on 'My Sister's Keeper' soundtrack

The folks at New Line Cinema are really going out of their way to bum us out with their upcoming Cameron Diaz weepfest My Sister's Keeper. First, all those "It's nothing, I just have something caught in my eye" trailers bombarded us, and now an equally heart-tugging soundtrack will accompany the Jodi Picoult adaptation -- including a previously unreleased song from the late Jeff Buckley entitled "We All Fall in Love Sometimes", which is already available for listen on the official website. My Sisters Keeper Soundtrack

Buckley, who drowned accidentally in the Mississippi River at age 30 in 1997, had posthumous success with his cover of "Hallelujah," which reached a sort of cultural saturation over the last decade or so with notable appearances on American Idol and The O.C., among others. So will this track see the same bittersweet achievement?

The song, written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin, is most certainly a downer (sample lyric: "It's so strange this feeling/notions that were childish/simple tunes that tried to hide it.") Though considering the subject matter at hand, I suppose it's rather apropos.

Fans of Buckley will be far from disappointed to hear more of his understated elegance here, both vocally and on the guitar. It may not pack the same punch, or gain the same draw that "Hallelujah" did, but it certainly does showcase Buckley's talent for the mainstream once more.

What do you think of the Buckley track, Music Mixers? Does it make you want to see the movie more? Buy the soundtrack (which also features the likes of Pete Yorn, Regina Spektor and James Blunt)? Or is it all just too much of a bummer for you?

i really want to see this movie.

i also brought the book in tesco today. the new edition with the movie cast on the front (well the three main ones) :)

I went to see this last night. The cinema was packed full of women and very few men. The people infront of me even bought a box of tissues! The whole cinema blubbed in the right places and it was heartfelt throughout.

I was really looking forward to the film after cram reading the book last week. I thought Cameron Diaz played a brilliant roll and the actress that played Kate was superb, it was so real.

Going to wrap the next bit in spoilers.
I was really disappointed that the film didn't follow the book in some aspects. It would of been nice to of seen Julia, because she gives some background to Campbell. He played a important role in the book and was given a backseat role in the film. Really sad the endings were different. Shame they couldn't of stuck to the book.

Overall though; brilliant book and mediorce film.
