My PS3 impressions so far

Sony has made it abundantly clear that their proprietary formats emerge superior regardless of what the "consumer public" wants. I admire them for standing by this principle despite constant "commercial failures."

what exactly is this 'more' you speak of? I have yet to be impressed by Blu-Ray. I realize there are some great movies out there, (Black Hawk Down on Blu-Ray kicks ass) but what more, exactly does Blu Ray offer? Especially for the money?

Do you realize in your incoherent babbling you didn't name one thing that made Blu-ray better than HD-DVD aside from more storage space? Did you know that Warner Bros. released Superman Returns on both Blu-ray and HD-DVD this past week? Both VC-1. Did you also know that they released it on a Blu-ray 50GB disc but only used 30GB of that space? Do you know why? Because they mastered Superman Returns for HD-DVD and ported it to Blu-ray. And yet at the same time the HD-DVD version gets an uncompressed Dolby TrueHD soundtrack while the Blu-ray version got a normal old Dolby Digital 5.1.

So keep telling me how great Blu-ray is while HD-DVD keeps soaking up market share and movie studios show their preference in mastering.

MPEG-4 SP (AAC LC)
H.264/MPEG-4 AVC Main Profile(AAC LC)
MPEG-1 (MPEG Audio Layer 2)
MPEG-2 PS(MPEG2 Audio Layer 2, AAC LC, AC3(Dolby Digital), LPCM)
MPEG-2 TS (MPEG2 Audio Layer 2)

It recognizes AVI, but says the data is corrupt.

I was reffering to my MP3 player, using it for storage for my movies. U can surf the internet and download stuff directly to the PS3 hard drive, your SD/CF cards or like me I'm downloading it to an external HDD connected to the PS3.

They're both HD players. What the FUCK?

Blu-ray supports Dolby True HD but its not mandatory, like it is with HD-DVD.

At any rate, who cares? Blu-ray will probably win.

HD DVD is selling better because it was the format that was most ready for public consumption.

It's had excellent quality and interactivity for most of the formats life. The players were really the weakest link and they aren't bad. I have a feeling that the next models due Dec 11 will make improvements as well.

Basically HD DVD is proving that this was indeed the format that should have been chosen to succeed DVD. Imagine if Sony, Matsushita, Philips, Samsung and others didn't get greedy on us and break ranks. Imagine the hardware and software we could have at our disposal.

HD DVD is also selling much better than Blu-Ray because it is more accessible to the average consumer. When Blu-Ray is at best only equaling the quality of HD DVD at double the cost, there is little to no incentive for J6P to choose BD over HD DVD.

In addition, "DVD" is a recognized technology that everybody understands and it is the next logical step up from DVD now that we're seeing more and more HDTVs instead of just regular old TVs. Blu-ray doesn't really spark an interest in most consumers, especially after the sticker shock.

Hell, just check the Amazon.com sales rankings comparing Blu-ray to HD-DVD....

Blu-ray doesn't come close to the sales of HD-DVD's
